Reasons to put car up for winter
#21
I bought my C6 to be a fun daily driver. I wouldn't have fun driving it in the snow, and I am not strapped for cash, so I wouldn't subject myself to misery. Instead, I'd sit my happy self in my AWD vehicle with heated seats and heated steering wheel, and enjoy it.

I have owned 6 Corvettes, from a C1 to the present C6 2007. And I have driven in a rough northeast winter, and I have come to the conclusion that all corvettes are by nature , warm blooded vehicles. I'm not saying they can't go out in Snow, But They Do Not Like It ! This is a car to be enjoyed and slogging around in snow isn't enjoining the car. Get a beater for the winter, or a 4WD.

I live in the Chicago suburbs and am on my fifth Vette. Current ride is a 2013 Grand Sport Coupe with an Edelbrock supercharger.
My car is a daily driver year round. I am retired and don't need to be on the road when it is snowing or wet and real cold, but I do drive year round and if its 20 degrees out, the roads are dry, I drive my car. During the spring summer months I ride on Continental Extreme Contact tires which are non runflat. The other half of the year I ride on Michelin All Season runflats and they are fine when cold but you have to know how to drive and be safe. I had driven all my Vettes year round and have never had any issues as long as you know the conditions, drive with common sense and respect the car. If I'm out and there is some salt residue on the roads, I wash the car!! Pretty simple.
My ride!!

When no A/S tires were available for the GS I did not move the car during the winters in Maryland.
When I got A/S tires I became a 12 month driver . . . . but I only take it out on clear winter days.
Happy to drive in cold now . . . but nor salt or snow ever.

I own a garage queen ..It is not going out in the winter ..It does not go out in the rain or when roads are wet ..
I own other appropriate vehicles for seasons after 'Top down Time' .
2 pickups [1 4X4 and 1 low rider] ,a Volvo S80 ,Chrysler Crossfire and Lincoln all wheel drive MKX.
There is no choice about putting the Harley up ,my C6 is not a hard choice to make .
Not even trying to imagine what it would like if it was not cared for .
2007 with 35k. It is my responsibility to be the caretaker of this fine vehicle .

I'm sorry, but I don't understand all this talk of snow, salt, and putting a car up for the winter. I just don't get it.

Every car I've owned that I've driven in Ontario winters has ultimately been destroyed by the salt and brine. It didn't matter how often it got washed or whether it was rust proofed, corrosion got them all. You can fix and replace mechanical parts that fail from use, but good luck fixing rust damage especially around windshields and rocker panels. And as has been pointed out, just because the road is dry doesn't mean it's salt free. Salt dust is almost as bad as brine. I won't take the vette out on the street after the winter until there's been a couple of good downpours to wash down the roads.

Don't worry, as you can see here, spring is just around the corner.

It is just starting to winter, here. Late Jan, Feb and March are usually the worst of winter weather. Isn't it that way up there?
