Ok so I bought a new set of wheels and now ordering some new rubber. Should I get new tpms sensors? Car is a 2006 with original tires. And if yes should I look for oem or are the off brands cheaper and as good. As always great info on this site. Thanks!
I strongly recommend that you go with AC Delco or Schraeder, who manufacture them for AC Delco. Before they get installed, check the manufacturing date code that's cast on them to make sure they are fresh. To further derisk things, you can program them before they are installed and mounted on the rims.
Thanks everyone. Fatswaller how are they programmed. Never did this before. Thanks
Unless you are planning to switch back and forth between two sets of wheels, don't bother buying the tool because any tire shop will have them and should program the sensors as part of the installation. You can still get the shop to program them before they install them. The actual programming takes all of a minute, so they usually don't charge if it's part of an install. You can find the actual programming instructions online. You start by pressing the lock and unlock buttons on your key fob at the same time. The basic programming tool is around $12, so if you like having tools, then it's not going to break the bank.
So many have stated only use OE sensors after horror stories with other makers, I went with Cultrag Chevy Performance. Price better the dealer and OE pieces. They are dated made in late 2019.
