Newbie looking at 2008 convertible
Being new to forum I'd like to say hello to everyone. I'm currently not a vet owner, but I've decided that since all the kids are gone out the house , it's time to buy one. So, I've found a 2008 convertible at a Ford dealership, being the end of the month, the sales manager says ," I gotta make a sale, here is a deal you can't refuse " , offers to sale the car for $22500. It is white ,beige top & interior ,64000 miles ,auto most options. My concern is with a few things & I could some input. The top looks worn and is "fuzzy" instead of being smooth , did this indicate it's written out? Below the door, there is a small area ,about the Size of a quarter, where the paint is chipped off ,exposing the fiberglass . Should this be a concern? Other than that, the car runs great and is solid with what appears to be upgraded brake rotors and calipers. My 2nd choice is a 04 with 42k miles hardtop.
sorry for the long post, thanks in advance

Hey Dude! The price isn't bad, miles are midrange, brakes could indicate the Z51 performance handling package. Perfect Corvettes are going for inflated prices these days. To replace the top is about $1000, fix the paint, $500 to $1000. Could be additional bargaining points - offer $20,000 and see where it goes - you can always go back to $22K. If you can tolerate the top and paint, you might be in for a good ride! Maybe there's a Forum member that lives close by that can help you scope the car for things you might miss. And if you really love the car as is, go for it! Sometimes we miss opportunities because we waffle a bit on fixable issues.

That's a great price for a LS3 vette in the current market. I can't help with the top but it shouldn't be "fuzzy" so I don't know what may have happened to make it that way. The rocker panel under the door is an integral part of the body and it is "glued" in place from the factory. If it is just a paint chip that's no big deal but it the rocker is cracked then that is a costly repair well over $1K to fix. Is this the exact vette you want, color, convertible, year, transmission, options etc? I know they will pressure you to buy today but I wouldn't rush into anything.

Thanks for your input, they gave me to Monday to decide, and I actually thought about offering them $20k, car needs rear tires, and the front passenger seat has some sort of stain/ color transfer. The pro is , it's a one owner car , local to the area, and they can pull all services done on the car, at the local chrvy dealer .

Get a Carfax report & see what that tells you

It may not matter to you, but the wheels are not the OEM that came on that car. They look to be C7 wheels if I’m not mistaken. No biggie just making an observation. Was going to say check the tires, which you already mentioned. That’s close to $1000.
looks like it has the Heads Up Display (HUD). What other options does it have?
does it have the dual mode exhaust?
best of luck and by the way, you’re picking the best color. Lol

Buy it, purchased my 08 in 2018, love it! I paid $25k. 68k miles, manual 3LT red interior. Just be careful, upgrades are a slippery slope. I think every used vette needs new rear tires?

I can't help but mention the woman that looks completely unimpressed with the car in the second picture!
I have the same color top and interior on my car. I attached a picture to show you a portion of my roof. Mine is definitely not "fuzzy".
As others have said, I think that's a pretty good price in this market! If it's the right color and options for you, grab it! You mentioned your other option is a coupe. That is probably the first decision you need to make, coupe or convertible. Only you can answer that. You will get all kinds of opinions on that. For me, it had to be a vert, without a doubt!
Someone else mentioned having someone look at it for you. There are amazing people on this forum, I'm sure someone would be more than willing to stop by and look at it for you. They will already know all the things to look for with these cars as there are a few things you should certainly look for before purchasing. The first being the harmonic balancer.

Actually, with today’s market conditions, the price almost seems a little to good to be true. Makes me wonder why they are so eager to sell it. Being a local one owner is a definite plus. Perhaps they can put you in touch with him for a little chat? And I would definitely try to pull up those service records. But if there are no other glaring problems, and you’re sure you want a convertible, I think I’d jump on it. As to the fuzzy top, I wouldn’t be to concerned, as long as there are no rips or tears. If it’s stain free, it might be that the other owner was over zealous in keeping it clean and used a bit to stiff a brush to scrub it. Not necessarily a bad thing. Besides, hopefully you’ll be driving it mostly with the top down. 😀

When new, the tops are a bit fuzzy, but it wears off from washing, the sun, etc.
It looks to me like your car is losing the fuzz and getting down to the cloth base. Mine did this yrs ago and it isn't a problem.
One little spot of bad paint? Hey, it's a 2008. If it really bothers you it could be color blended/matched. Perhaps the dealer would do it?

If they don't deal with the price, tell them set new tires, will make the deal with new TPMS sensors.
The age of the car, the sensor will not giving you trouble down the road.

looks like a nice Vet with a decent price, hope you bough it as no Vet is ever without some little issues. If that is your other half, it's tells me she isn't sure about that car. Maybe she has not ridden in a C6 Vet and is a nice car. Once you are past the buy she should warm up to a nice Vet.
If you bought it post some pics of the Vet, thanks
