I know there are no updates for the C6 navigation system but has anyone found a way to update it other than the normal commercial update (which has no updates).
Has anyone tried to update the system using another cars disks to update the C6, such as something from Camero, Caddy, GM, etc.?
I do not want to use something other than my factory system, such as Garman, etc.

FWIW, I once accidentally put in a disc for something like a Suburban or Silverado. It didn't outright reject the disc, but it also didn't display any map or was in no way useable. I get that some folks like the NAV system, but it was archaic from the get go. Why GM decided to go with that Denso unit (not developed by GM) and not license something from Garmin in a car as expensive as a Corvette or Cadillac is beyond me. To further that argument, while they were available, the cost of a legitimate updated NAV DVD was like $200 (and there were several), more than the one time cost of a new Garmin with lifetime updates for maps, data, and traffic.
I replaced with Kenwood use my Iphone for GPS, always up to date, and has DVD player, CD player, Bluetooth and rear camera is the way to today along Sirius receiver.
I seriously doubt any 3rd party will ever put out an updated disc. They probably can't legally without violating copyright laws and the market would not be very large. Once they sold a handful someone would start selling bootleg copies on ebay for $10. I think the best bet would be for owners to push GM for an update but doubt it will happen. Most people that want a good NAV replace their head unit and everybody else uses their phone. I get a good laugh at mine getting completely confused every time I drive the I85 - I385 interchange which has totally changed since the last map update.

I believe the navigation system was an $1,800 option at the time I bought my C6. I regretted not getting a Corvette with navigation, but the concensus here was that it wasn't a good system.
Get a good aftermarket NAV system, they have much better sound and functionality, in the long run you'll be glad you did.
I have no intention of updating the head unit. I added Bluetooth and that is good for me. I have a phone for navigation and works great for me. The motor and exhaust tone are my music most of the time. I have a Malibu boat that I get my music fix with. And I can have a refreshment in hand as well.

This comment I made was intended for the OP, not you.
As a side bar to the OP's post someone asked me this question. He asked "Will the change over to a universal 5G network affect older navigation systems on Corvettes" ? I have no idea, any thoughts here?

It's my understanding that the switch over will affect OnStar, for example OnStar is no longer supported on my 05, and from what I understand if you have a newer car and subscribe to OnStar you're eligible for a updated OnStar module that's compatible with 5G, if you're not a subscriber this won't be offered to you. There's no effects to the NAV system operation itself as it relies on the GPS satellites for its function, and not a cell phone signal
Personally, I'm a fan of Pioneer stuff, however Kenwood make real good systems also, it just depends on how much you're willing to spend. If you look in the Audio/Electronics section of this forum, you can find a lot of good info there, also here's a recent thread concerning what all's needed for the installation. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...w-kenwood.html

Short answer is No. Hence on the C6 nav system, the disc is more than just a Map disc, but the programming and updates to the nav radio as well.
Hence got to remember that the Nav radio in the C6's where final designed in 2004, so they don't have the processing power and memory even close to a cell phone 10 years old.
Simply, think back to the first Mac computers, before the days of hard drives like the 20 meg unit that you could get on the Se, and where you first had to start the computer up with its OS floppy in the machine to start with.
As for cracking the disc software to pull the old map out of, and installing a current ma back in, it's possible, once you do get past GM encryption and safe blocks trying to stop you from doing this in the first place.

Problem right now is getting one, most of them are back ordered or out of stock. Anything with Carplay/AndroidAuto will be a huge improvement and let you use Google Maps as your navigation, which will always be up to date. Find one that has the features you want, personally I'd say get one with wireless CP/AA as I find it very nice, and add a backup camera while you're swapping the head unit.
There was a member with a file with the firmware. I burned it to a DVD, to where you put it in the car and it loads a newer firmware. I was then able to use a mp3 disc. My current c6, navigation needs it too.
Might be difficult finding an actual cd drive now a days.
