I have a six disc in my Corvette and I was curious if the touchscreen navigation will plug directly into the harness of the six disc player. I see these navigation screens up for sale on craigslist etc. and I thought about getting one. Unless the existing wiring harness won’t accept it, then I won’t bother. Has anyone swapped theirs out?
Not sure what you're trying to accomplish by connecting a screen to your existing radio? Unless your existing radio has nav and you're looking to get a larger screen, otherwise there's no reason. If you're looking to add navigation consider a new Pioneer or similar touch screen radio with Apple Car Play and Android capability. This will also allow you to use a back up camera and hands free phone. One of the firsts upgrades many guys do with a Vette. You can install it yourself in a few hours. Contact Crutchfield for available radios and they will also make up a plug and play wiring system to make it really simple. Only problem right now is availability of some models due to back orders.
I didn’t know all what was involved so that’s why I was asking. I wasn’t sure if I could just replace what was there with the screen and tada. I see the C6 touchscreens for as low as $100 on craigslist.
I couldn’t even begin to tell you what the hell Apple CarPlay even is lol. I’ll just stick with my six discs. (VanHalen, Whitesnake, David Lee Roth)
Thank you a second time rbWinston. 😉
He's precisely right, you're better served going with an aftermarket touchscreen like Pioneer, don't bother with anything less, the features serve you well, google navigation, arguably the best, hands free phone integration, dual camera capabilities, etc etc
The C6 NAV is hopelessly obsolete hence the reason you see people selling them cheap. If nothing else, the last map update was years ago and there will never be another. It is without a doubt the most hateful system I've ever used. Sure you can do it but you will be far happier with a modern aftermarket head unit.
it's not even a consideration...I got a cheap 'Eonon' headunit to replace my 6 disc Bose NAV and have seamless car play with modern navigation, WAZE etc, backup cam, traffic cam, etc. Seamless.
Installation cost me $150. I wouldn't invest a dime or 10 minutes time on the OE type units. They are obsolete
Oh...and sound is much better too, although I prefer to listen to LS7 in this car ;-)

Yes, the OEM nav radio will plug into your existing wiring harness.I had the 6 disk player too and never used it.
I changed mine out. The only thing is that you will have to have your dealer or someone with a tech II program your car to recognize the new radio.
The major thing that OEM nav critics fail to mention is that the OEM nav displays the turns and moves on your HUD. NONE of the aftermarket nav systems will do this.

Except we don't know if the OP has a HUD and even if he does it won't display directions in track mode which is the only useful mode as it has the G meter.

Ah, there we go! That’s what I was wanting to know. Thank you so much. I’m not sure if I’m going to actually do it, but I wanted to know if something like that was even possible. In case I wanted to take the cheaper route less traveled.
Well, after much consideration I have decided that I would be too busy driving my car to play with my iPad while doing so. I honestly don’t need all of that crap accessible on my dashboard anyway. The only external digital service I can think of that I have ever needed behind the wheel of a car was the Maps directions. I have that in my phone. I’ll play with my apps when I get home. 😉
One push of a button and I have endless music as it is. Doesn’t get any better than that. I like to keep things simple.

I have everything but the navigation screen and the stitched leather trimmed interior. And I mean everything.
Oh, and no NPP. But from what I understand, I don’t really want/need it.

The main reason I got rid of my OEM head unit was because I wanted to get my MP3 music from a thumb drive and not from CDs anymore. The audio system in my GS did not have this capability, so I ****-canned it and installed an aftermarket Kenwood head unit that accepts a thumb drive ... The head unit also has built-in Garmin navigation so I don't need to get my navigation through a smartphone.
