Long thread but needed to add my .02. I picked up my 2012 at a dealer in Fla. within 2 hrs of the drive home a dodge hellcat pulls up alongside us. I tell my wife this guy wants to race. ( i am an old fart with gray hair BTW). She wants to know how I know. I tell her a guy just knows. She says I am crazy and delusional. I tell her again he wants to race but not to turn her head and look at him. Why not? Guys just don’t do that. He keeps it up nose to nose for about a mile, she still thinks I am crazy. I finally tell her to watch this. I tap the pedal to wake up the engine and he takes off down the road like a bat out of hell. I start laughing. And she wants to know why. I tell her that although he had a really really nice car, at the end of the day,I had a vette. I guess it’s called vette envy. Had a few more mustangs try the same trick on the 450 mile drive home. Let em go by, because as I said, you’ve got a vette
I've had a few want to race. A young kid in a old mustang asked me if I wanted to race him for the titles. I asked him why I would want an old Mustang, he huffed a little and walked away.
I played with a Mustang GT once, we passed each other a few times, it wasn't serious racing. I really don't want to race anyone.
What I do hate is (since my car is a manual) when I am first at a light and if I don't get going soon enough and don't shift fast enough I have a car up m ***.
Everybody is a racer in an automatic whatever car. I just deal with it.
Racing takes place on race tracks. Drag, oval, road, dirt, rally, rallycross, hillclimb, autoX. Pick one or many.Only dumb asxes think they are "racing" on a highway.
I always love it when you are cruising along and " the supra guy" pulls up next to you. you check his car out, he checks yours out. you are waiting for him to rev or give the "signal" and nothing happens. then your exit comes up and as you are merging off the road, they hit it like they stole it.
I've only had my C6 a little over a year, which is unfortunately only a few months because New England. It's my first car in 20 years, I've always driven an SUV. I can't believe the tailgating and the need for people to get in front of me. Especially stupid trucks. The last time someone tried racing me it was an old K5 Blazer on the highway. The license plate was BOOOST. I had my kid in the car, I stepped on it a little but I'm pretty sure I would have gotten smoked even if I tried. He must have had nitrous or something. That thing took off like a rocket!

I would agree in a perfect world, and if you actually mean "track" its kinda difficult. Track insurance for the day is 250-300$ entrance fee (best case with a group) lets say 100$, ive heard you can easily burn up 1/2 a set if not a full set of tires that's 1k, gas, lodging if you don't live close. Best scenario its 1500 per day. Most people cant afford that, i know i cant... maybe once a year at best.
If you are talking about the strip sure, much cheaper but not any fun imo.
Range Rovers and coal fired Teslas are the worst. It's like they are trying to prove that they can afford a fast expensive car or golf cart. I had a guy in a Tesla weave around traffic just to get up on my bumper. Followed me down a two lane windy road speeding up and slowing down on my bumper trying to provoke me. Yea I knew he could get to 60 faster than me, assuming he had a full charge. But I doubt he would have stayed with me in the turns. I just stayed at the exact posted speed limit just to frustrate the obnoxious driver.

I have been driving Corvettes for 25 years. I have never experienced this until recently. A Tesla driver, at a stoplight, asked me to show him "what I got". I replied I don't do this. He said his Tesla would take me, I replied not at Sebring.
The Corvette is a track car. I have encountered Hellcat's at Sebring. They do not do well. A Camaro ZL1 1LE is a very capable track car as well as the C7Z. They both kick my *** driving a C6Z.
I usually just let them go ahead. Every once in a while, I'll give it a whirl. I think most of them just want to see if a Corvette is just another chevy. Or is it something more. There's lot WRX's and Hellcats around. I watched a Hellcat guy total his ride trying to show off.
I spent some time watching a few YouTube videos on show off fails and the like last summer. A lot of the usual suspects and sadly some Corvettes. Lots of money gone in a very few seconds. I will still watch a few when I have some time. It is sort of a reminder not to do anything too stupid.

I was going to say that Corvette owners/drivers also do this. And not just to Corvettes, but to other cars as well.
Back in 2015 or 2016, I drove an AMG E63 Station Wagon around Atlanta for a week or so. I had lots of folks pulling up next to me at traffic lights wanting to drag racelose. If I had to guess, over half of them were in C5, C6 and C7 Corvettes. And the road rage was strong with the Corvette drivers after being beaten to the speed limit or a little beyond.

Isn't the AMG a $100k + vehicle with a twin turbo charged V8 ? I'll wager Farm Truck from Street Outlaws would annihilate the AMG wagon.
I don't know about Farm Truck. Maybe I should click the link.
The AMG wagon I drove at that time was an older model with the 6.2L engine. I think it was from the last year for the 6.2L engines, 2011 maybe. This one was modified significantly, including a supercharger. WHP was around 650 when I drove it.
Oh, and another prior experience with idiots trying to stoplight drag race goes back about 40 years. I had an 1975 Olds Cutlass Salon that looked well cared for back then, with a 455 (engine swap), headers, full dual exaust, posi rear axle, the Oldsmobile Rallye wheels had been modified with wider rim sections (9" instead of the stock 7" rim), but looked mostly stock. Front brakes were out of "Circle Track" magazine for a short track car. Also lowered, stiffened, with big bars on each end for better cornering. It was my "autocross sports car" and in spite of being almost 2 tons and covering nearly a quarter acre of the paddock area, it was competitive with Fox Body Rustangs and Camaros/Firebirds in the ESP (Street Prepared) class at the time.
And one night driving home from work in Atlanta, I had a little early MR2 pull up next to me and want to race. He was yelling out the window, "It'll be a fair match, I've got 16 valves." I yelled back, "I've got 16 valves, too, but I've got 8 pistons to go with them."
