I just bought the quick jack 5000TL for my 2005 C6.
Question to those that have them.
Did you have to buy different pucks for the specific lifting locations or were the provided pucks the right type to place without damage to the side body.
Get jacking pucks and use in conjunction with the tallest pucks you can get under the car.
The blocks that come with it work, but they are too big to comfortably fit in the cutouts
thanks for the comments guys. I think Ill also get some jacking pucks but probably not the permanent mounting kind.
Greg
I got some $12 Amazon Chicom specials.
they do the trick.
Perm mounted ones would make life easier though. They wobble out easy when trying to set the jacks and blocks
I have perm plastic ones and they work perfectly with my QJ5000. I put the tallest block I can under the pucks. Just make sure the QJ are on level ground. The plastic pucks and the rubber blocks could be a disaster waiting to happen. The first time I put mine upI had straddled the center of the garage floor, for more room on each side. Well the 2 sides of the floor were different and the car started to slide! Luckily I was paying a lot of attention. Moved everything over to one bay and have not had an issue, but I still keep an eye on it. QJ is best money I have spent in tools in a long time. Right now my C3 is up one it, and has been for about 6 months. But that is another story....
I have the 5000SLX I believe and it came with two different height sets of rubber blocks. I use the taller ones without jacking pucks. You cannot fit jacking pucks and the taller rubber blocks under the car on the lift, at least not on my car at the factory height with the aluminum pucks I have. The rubber blocks are small enough so that you can position under the puck location without hitting the fiberglass from the rocker panel. Just take your time and it is easy.
another question on this unit. What hydraulic flluid did you end up using? or did you use ATF?
also ive noticed the threaded areas do not come close to being fully engaged to the bottom of the threaded section on the connections.
Was this common to those that have this lift.
I used ATF. I don't know of what you are talking about with the threaded areas. I don't remember having any assembly concerns but I put mine together years ago.
I contacted quickjack and the rep went out to their warehouse to the one they have set up and the connections all have several threads showing at the connections. just gives me pause with hydraulic pressure and thread engagement.
they also said ATF is best for this application
Greg,
I'm guessing that your talking about the threads on the hydraulic fittings? They probably shouldn't bottom down like a conventional nut/bolt. Fluid/hydraulic fittings are NPT (National Pipe Thread) and are tapered and fit tighter the further they're tightened making for excellent sealing at the threads for fluids/gases.
I agree with PC music guy, I too use the larger blocks that came with the jacks , without the pucks, they work great and fit in same area as the pucks would. They don't mount into the holes like the pucks , but they cover the same area and work just fine. These jacks are great, totally stable, and when you're lying under the car you don't have to worry about it at all, it's a solid lift
They are called stay in place pucks. They can easily be removed, so not permanent. The plastic ones just pop off and on.
thanks everyone. I actually bought the "permanant" pucks and installed. Easy. There is also looks like enough height with the pucks to use whichever block configuration I want. Which I'll use both stacked to get the highest lift.
Still haven't gotten fluid yet to use the lift with other priorities but I'll get there.
I bought the pucks but haven't used them yet. I didn't have any issues making the pads that came with the quickjack work. There is plenty of space and you can rotate the rubber pads to have max clearance. I'll save the pucks for when I need to use the floor jack. But as mentioned above, you can basically mix and match to your hearts content.
So today I finally got everything ready to go. Put the quick jack under the car and there is not enough length on the frame where the pucks are to fully engage either small or large blocks.i get half at best. So I'll be returning these and only using the blocks in the lift points. Disappointed.

I have the stay in place pucks and have no issues with my QuickJack. I have the older 5000, so I'm not sure if the newer model is different with the length.
I have to shift it around a bit to make everything fit. Usually I position one block, and find the other doesn’t fit, then I have to slide the jack around but find a place where they both fit. I’m wondering if it is because I don’t use the pucks. I’ve got a larger surface area to work with.

i have found that having pucks makes it easier to line up by eye quickly. Without pucks I had to shift around a bit to get it right
