Hi everyone I just purchased an 08 base a few days ago with 45k miles. Whenever I first back out of my driveway and put the car into drive it seems the front drivers side tire skips a little bit. I read about the Ackerman effect but no matter which way I turn only the front drivers side skips a little bit. Car drives fine once I get going but this little skip has me worried as I don’t want to mess the car up. Is this normal? I also just saw the tires I have on are summer tires and don’t know if this affects this. Only about 40° in my area right now. Tires are bridgestone potenza s-04 pole positions. Is it safe to drive summer tires in the winter if it’s above freezing?

I think you're fine, my concern is getting proper traction when yowr tires are cold. Drive moderately and carefully until they warm up and check the pressure when it's cold

I may only be 21 years old but I love the car for the look speed is just a bonus. I don’t drive too fast and only hit 100 once when I took my brother for a drive. (He had a 06 fbo wasn’t too impressed with my completely stock car lol) I was wondering why my tires keep losing air pressure and this might be it. Hoping this little tire hop is just a normal thing and nothing serious.

For every 10 degrees the outside temp drops your tires will lose 1 to 2 psi. When inflating go 1 psi above recommended if they aren't cold (not driven on for 4 or more hours)

do you think these tires are why it’s making that sound and after awhile the tires warm up and don’t make the sound anymore? Also if I air up the tires to 30 psi when it’s 40° does that mean when it’s 75° this weekend (gotta love the Midwest temperature swings) I need to take air out?

Not sure i really understand your explanation exactly... But at low speeds near wheel lock the C6 "plows" quite a bit sometimes on smooth pavement is a screech, sometimes when its rougher it "skips" as it gains and loses traction. This is normal, i have it along with many others. Something about the low speed geometry just isn't right. Shouldn't hurt anything except a little bit of tire wear.

As said above, it’s just some low speed stuff that happens on all these cars. As for your question above, don’t worry about your tire pressure fluctuating because of temperature, if it’s low, air it up. I live in the midwest too and rarely ever touch my psi unless i’m deflating it before doing something dumb lol.

This makes me feel a lot better. A better word would be hop not skip. Was worried it might be a bad bearing, tie rod, etc. I’m starting to think it’s because my tires are cold because as it warms up I haven’t noticed it.

yep hop is the word i was searching for. I would have to hear the noise to be certain but alot of people are caught offguard by this when they first get a vette it seems. Tires warm it has more traction harder for it to skip and when/if it does its probably quieter and less noticeable.

Even on 100 degree days i notice it on black asphalt when the steering is fully cranked. Just a C6 thing, think this is typical of most track designed cars. not meant to go slow =)

Most of the summer tires have disclaimers to not drive in temperatures 40 degrees or below. The rubber will harden and control will be limited until they warm up. If you intend to drive year-round, you should invest in a set of all season tires.

Be safe and enjoy your car...GD
