C6 Targa Creak Noise
Hey All,
Spamming posts as of late, sorry. T Top has been creaking for past 1,000 miles, during this time I have applied multiple coats of "Blaster" silicon lubricant to all seals, and torqued the following:

I also applied di-electric grease on the metal-metal locating pins. Any thoughts on what to try next? It is potentially better than what it was, but still bothers me. Not the end of the world if it stays as-is, but happy to try anything else that could fix it.

If your latches have rollers add an E clip to the roller. Killed the noise for me. My top cracked and I got a newer design without the rollers. Absolutely 0 noise

I put some white lithium grease on the threads of the pins, heat shrink tubing over the pins with o-rings, and heat shrink tubing on the rear hook and it is 100% quiet now.

I took heat shrink tubing and put two layers of it on my pins... it shut it up pretty good. Made it to where just the head of the pin was showing.

I believe the e-clip size is 5/32 or 3/16. Also check the pins every once in a while to make sure they are tight. I also dabbed some silicone grease on all the pins and on the front latch pads after installing the e-clips. I believe 2005-2008 had the roller type front latches 2009-2013 had the fixed pads.

The only other area that can cause noise is where the front latch contact point and the frame meet. Try putting some grease at the contact points to see if that cures the creaking.

What finally stopped my top from making any noise was to drop the latches, clean all the friction surfaces, and then reassemble with superlube on the contact points. The latches can be removed with the roof in place. Unlatch the handle first. A torx-40 is required. Don’t lose the thin spring washer. The shoulder bolt has some blue thread locker on it, so I used a bit of Teflon tape on reassembly. Not sure of the torque for the bolt, so I just made it snug. The top hasn’t made a sound in probably 5 or more years now, over many miles, and it’s been on and off numerous times.
Don’t forget to relatch the roof, or you’ll become a not so proud member of the flying roof club.

ust keep working with it. I did all the seals and posts and latch on the end. . Still wanted to creak a little. Went back with silicone grease on the channel that the end of the latch rides on as it closes and stopped the noise.
