The tradition started because there were so few Corvettes on the road. Even up to early C-3"s there were not that many made each year. It was great seeing another fellow Corvette owner on the road and so you waved at them in friendship. Corvettes were always about performance and most did not have A/C and the window was down. I am a 68 coupe owner for 53 years. Lou.
Just something I noticed when out driving around.
I get and receive waves from every Generation Vette Owner except for the C8's, I'm not meaning to de-mean them but true story.
I could of easily bought a C8 if I wanted and would of waved to any Vette.
I wave at the C8 guys and get NADA.
It’s funny… I had an incident the other day, and I was going to post about it because it was a WTF moment.
I had pulled up to a Left turn lane and while waiting for the green, I noticed a yellow car pulling up beside me, but stopped right about at the rear body line of the door. Nowhere near people would normally stop at a light. I didn’t look over other than seeing barely anything in my peripheral vision. Well, as it turns out, it was a C8 and the guy was hiding from me…because when the light turned green you would’ve thought this guy was running against John Force the way he launched into the intersection. Funny thing was there was a shopping center literally on the other side of the intersection that he was entering with his “I am at Maple Grove Raceway“ type of takeoff, and I was making a left turn, so I don’t know what he thought we were gonna do.
I’ve gotten waves from C8 guys before but this guy seemed kind of snobbish. I thought it was odd that he hid from me. I just smiled as the light turned green and went on my merry way thinking “I’d still rather be driving my 2012 grand sport convertible than what you’re driving.“

C8 owners have become a different kind of Vette owner. They seem to think they bought an exotic supercar.
I'm with you, I just bought a C6 and I could have bought a C8 but it's not for me.

I had a WTF last summer also. I was driving on US 206 in New Jersey and for the first time ever since release, I saw another C6 ZR1 going the other direction, in Crystal Red Metallic. I frantically waved and honked, and the guy completely ignored me. It looked like he was looking off to the side.
My forum friend and I both have cyber gray cars. The one time we drove them together several people lost their minds, hahahaha!
"According to Vice President of GM North America Steve Hill, two out of three C8 buyers are new to Chevy."
That explains it all. Most C8 owners have never owned even a Chevy, let alone a Corvette.
In addition, most C8 buyers are in the 30-40 years of age range. Which is drastically different than 60+ years of age for older generation Vettes.
Most C8 owners don't attend car shows, could care less waving, and they see the C8 as just a sports car that they will trade in or trade up in a few years. They are driving more miles and don't treat the car like garage queens.
The C8 changed the demographic of Corvette buyers.

I think just the demographic changed in general. Corvettes are no longer cars you lust after working 80 hr weeks that you finally get to enjoy at retirement.
We are now in a time where kids are buying 6 figure cars before they can even drive from making money off looking like idiots on social media.
To me, my corvette is just another cool car. I’ve owned plenty of cool cars, and this won’t be my last. They don’t quite hold the same prestige as yesteryear.
I swear that when I had my C5 and was just a lurker on the Forum, when C6s first came out and for the first couple of years, this same thing was said about them. Maybe for C8s, it's snobbery, maybe it’s ignorance of the Corvette wave, or, heck maybe it’s just that some aren’t aware of other older Corvettes. Or some combo of those. If I see another Corvette, regardless of generation, I will always wave. Now, some may not see me because my windows are dark, but if I see another I will wave. Not all wave back and that’s cool. To me, it’s just a great tradition and one that I will do my part in making sure it continues.
oh boy, one long weekend away and i missed a "wave" thread lol... ugh... this topic has been beat to death... wave if you want, dont get bent out of shape when someone doesnt wave back... maybe dude in the c8 just caught his wife cheating on him an was having a shitty day... The "you didn't wave" entitlement of the Corvette community is unfounded, ya'll give the jeepers and the harley bruthers a run for their money. (for the record I dont wave on purpose just to see if it leads back here to another wave thread)
I saw a video of a lady freaking out and crying because another Jeep did not wave at her.
she said “why did you even buy a Jeep if you arent going to wave” lol

A similar situation I had about 2 months ago but with a C7 vert owner. I was in the left lane and he was in the right lane about 100 feet ahead of me and we were approaching the light. Pretty sure he knew I was behind him, and we would have been side by side @ the light. The guy stops about 2 car lengths behind the car in front of him, he has the top down and a passenger. I pull up and stop right next to him, I have my roof off. This guy does not even look over at me. I would inch my car up and look over at him waiting for him to just look over to his left. He never did, looked straight ahead and at his passenger. The light went green, I closed the gap between me and the car in front and took off. I looked in my mirror and you would have thought this dude forgot what the gas pedal did. He did not want to catch up to me for whatever reason. I won't badmouth the guy as I don't know him but it was really strange.
Do the wave thing if you want or not, I like it and I do but if you don't it ain't no biggie in my book. When one cool car pulls up next to another and both have the tops down, that becomes more of a car guy courtesy to at least acknowledge the guy next to you.
He was probably thinking some weirdo in a c6 wont stop staring at me and wants to make eye contact, best to avoid this awkward situation since im trying to focus on my date who is in the car with me and enjoy my time with her and not have it interrupted by some random stranger with a similar car as me, also don't want to get goated into street racing if theirs a cop behind us... probably something along those lines if I had to guess.

I think he was jealous, my date (wife) and car were better looking than his!
