Wondering what people are using these days, I hear a lot about using ATI but when checking their website it says they need to be removed and sent in to be rebuilt every few years and I certainly don't wanna go thru that.
Its not news, its always been this way because they are sfi approved I believe.
That being said, these are complete overkill for most builds and really they state to rebuild them regularly for big blower setups.
Like stock, these balancers need maintenance. I hate when people act like replacing the OEM unit with new is a flaw vs just a wear item, because it’s just a wear item at the end of the day.

so what do you recommend then? I am willing to bet most guys with a stock car aren't aware of this

Stock is a fine replacement. If you really want aftermarket the powerband is a fine replacement. If you want to spend a bunch of money for overkill and try to find a way to justify your purchase, ATI is a fine replacement.
Really, it’s all fine. This gets blown out of proportion as a flaw without people realizing it’s rubber on a 20yr old car that wears out.

Thanks for your reply......my concern is that EVERYONE says never replace with the OEM one because they are flawed even new

Based on everything I have read on this subject the above three balancers will fit the bill for a replacement. Forum members seen to talk highly about the Powerbond balancer.
Those who mention they went with a Powerbond balancer are not being specific enough.
They make the -SS chunk of metal SFI rated model and the -N elastomeric rubber model with similar (and supposedly improved) design to the stock GM. One is twice the cost of the other.
I went with the Powerbond stock style replacement many years ago with no issues. Reviews convinced me to skip the one from Dorman.

I would never put a new OEM balancer back on the car as they are failure-prone by design. Summit C2501 is my favorite balancer for either stock or supercharged vehicles. The Powerbond also seems like a good choice.

I have always heard the same thing about the OEM ones, but what design are you speaking of? The ATI and Powerbond also have rubber/
My summit balancer will be here tomorrow. New balancer, arp bolt and oem crank seal going in. Had too many issues with oem balancers on my ls2 gto. My one summit balancer lasted over twice the mileage of 4 oem balancers and was still going strong when I sold the car. No way I'd put a stock balancer back on my car.
