Sounds like most of you would use it for realtime finding of businesses and such while on the road? Well, I don't have a great amount of need for that.
If I need to get to an unfamiliar place, I get good directions, or MapQuest/Expedia the route beforehand.
Aside from that, I feel that if you can't do basic navigation - "I'm going north/south/east/west" on your own, then you're dangerous.
How much weight are you talking about with the Nav? I bet it's not more than 3-4 lbs. Also, I would NEVER give up the side airbags because of a few pounds of weight.
Hey, every ounce counts. I like my cars as fast as they can be without having to sacrifice/alter the reliability/power delivery of what the factory gives me and keeping the weight down wherever/whenever possible has been proven to help in achieving that desire. Tell me that the slight extra weight of the Nav and side airbags is meaningless next time you run a 12.0001 (a virtual 11.999 without said items ;)) at the drag strip.
And now we just CANNOT live without side air bags as well? How did you possibly function all these years before without them?
What's next, toilets in sports cars?..."oh I would NEVER let the few extra pounds of my new car toilet prevent me from doing without it". :lolg: ;)
Isn't the Corvette a "sports" car? Maybe Chevrolet is adding too many toys. Nav system, heated seats, come on.
:nonod:
Re: How many will/would get navigation? (Scissors)
Well, that's why it's an option...I won't need a Nav System but if it's available in the Z06 I'll get one. I love the gadgets...and if it doesn't, I'll probably pick up a used system on e-bay or something. Same with the heated seats...the Caddy has them all around and I am quite used to them now.
Re: How many will/would get navigation? (RichieRich)
The more I look at the Nav system, the more I'm thinking its a bad idea. Has anyone taken a look at the controls?
There are no radio preset buttons. That means that to select a preset station you have to use the touch screen. The detail is that to use a touch screen you have to look at it, taking your eyes off the road. Not an issue on the XLR because it has the buttons on the steering wheel, but oooops, that's not on the Corvette.
Add that to the lack of a CD changer and not being able to play any CD while using the Nav system and it appears that this option was not thought through at all.
So in summary, to add the Nav system you sacrifice:
1. Money
2. Weight
3. CD changer
4. CD player (when using Nav system)
5. Radio presets
Have I missed anything?
Note: I actually think the dash looks better with the Nav than without, but that's because the without version looks pretty bland and those basic radio and enviromental control displays don't look very impressive.
Now, to be fair, we don't have all the facts on how the system will work, so its possible that these are non-issues (except cost), but it doesn't look good.
To solve the problem, put the buttons on the steering well and add a hard disk so you can load the Nav DVD, CDs, MP3s, and everything else directly into it.

Count me in. The lasck of NAV (up 'till now) caused me to turn in my vette at lease end and get something that had it. That will go away as soon as the NAV-equipped 'Vette arrives.
:)

Now THAT'S Corvette passion at it's finest huh, "it didn't have Navigation so I just dumped it for a car full of gadgets instead"
Owning/driving a Corvette means just a little bit more to me than that. ;)
But hey, if the DVD/Nav puts more people into the Corvettes that normally wouldn't buy them then that's good too of course. :yesnod:

No, it's called expecting and demanding state of the art technology - at least on par with what its competitors offer - in GM's flagship sports car...
I swear, if the folks on this forum that were happy with the status quo ran GM, then we would be seeing 2005 C4s out there.....instead of continuous improvement and enhancements to America's sports car...
Re: How many will/would get navigation? (Hurricane)
Is it true that you have to eject the CD and insert the nav DVD for the nav system to work? If so then I will say no to nav.
It is going to come down to cost, functionality, and ability to listen to what ever music I want (including cd's) when nav is in use.
I have a Street Pilot 2610 that works great: pretty much on par with the DVD based systems except for a smaller screeen and a coupe of small features. I bought it for $740 off the web which is a lot less than I would think the nav option would cost and I can take the streetpilot with me when I fly out of town. I can also plan routes on my PC and upload them to the Street Pilot via USB. I am betting that the C6 system will not be able to do that.

Good question... Let's hope that it works like the Garmin iQue where you can preload certain regions (as much as fits into the RAM) and only need the CD when you need to update the map or load in another new set of regions... (Which means that you would only need to pop in the CD on longer trips if you travel outside the region in RAM).

I'm currently putting one in my silverado from the escalade...I have an 03 and hate to get lost...it cost me $1300 on eBay, but I'll get $300 for my old hu

Re: How many will/would get navigation? (C5Longhorn)
Yes, I will be getting the Nav. system. And, yes, I can use a map. But, for people who live in very urban cities such as Los Angeles, getting lost is more than an inconvenience. Especially, when a wrong turn can mean a 2 to 3 hour mistake at anytime during the day (not just rush hour). Also, I would not like to end up in Compton (or area like it) with a new corvette. There are people who have lived in this city all of their lives and will make wrong turns less than a mile from their home. For some, it's a very useful innovation.
As for the disc changer, don't care for it, cdr's can carry close to 200 tracks. Also, don't care for XM radio, music is still free on the net.
Re: How many will/would get navigation? (RichieRich)
I think I would get it. I do travel frequently and if mapquest is available because im out of town, etc.. and I want to find something its a piece of cake.
that being said... I dont agree wtih the price.... you can buy a good system in the store for half that price, but thats because your getting it from the dealer.
I have never had it, but if its easy to use, low glare, and you can understand what they are saying and its loud enough, I think I would like it.
Re: How many will/would get navigation? (Voltech_LT4)
The Nav system looks great...but if you can't use it AND listen to a CD???? :bs That's like selling a car with a steering wheel that doesn't work when the ignition is on...D U M dumb. :skep:
