LP Bracket - Different Answer
Most license plate holders cover a 1/2" margin on the top and sides of the plate
and up to 3/4" on the bottom. So, top + bottom = 1.25" of the plate is covered
by the holder.
I don't know the dimensions of the Smoothie that people use on their C5's,
but it looks to be approx. 3/4" all the way around. That would make
only 4.5" height of the plate's 6" visible.
If the Smoothie is legal (the plate is considered readable)
at only 4.5" uncovered height...
well thats that. I wonder how many folks that planned on purchasing the C6 in states that require front plates, will refuse to buy the new vette now on account of the awefull placement of the lp, seems like something small...but not really its an aesthetic joke.
What is the ratio of states that require them vs those that dont? if sales were low due to folks not purchasing it would GM go through more lengths to create a better solution/ granted, if those states and lack of buyers impacted total sales enough, probably not. I'm sure they are confident they'll sell every one they make easily.
nice job on these findings and illustrations in this post...as stated looks like either you run the front plate, or dont and risk the fine... if you happen to be one of those that unfortunately live in a state that requires front plates like myself.
we did all aero development and front end cooling flow with the license plate bracket on the clay model every test every shift..........always we spent over 32 hours devloping the license plate bracket shape location to minimize cooling flow losses.....the bracket is shared with the wow C6
There are lots of cars out there that look funny with the front plate. In Ohio there are many people who drive without the front plate. They range from Kias all the way up to Mercedes, BMWs, and Corvettes.
Excuse me if this doesn't make any sense...I'm not an engineer.
If locating the plate in the center of the slot blocks too much air flow maybe there is another way to get air to the engine?
Thinking of one of my favorites...70 Chevelle SS with the cowl induction hood.
