Having owned the C6 for a few days, there are a few of things about the NAV that could use some work around or a cheat code or something.
1. Whenever you use the NAV after the car has been turned off you must do an I Agree to not entering stuff while driving. Well I agree already. Now I need to find a way to turn it off.
2. I'm finding it hard to believe that there isn't a way to do MP3s,Denso made a big deal out of saying they could on their units.
3. DVD Movies... nuff said.
4. In respect to #1 I would like to be able to enter a destination while moving. Passengers can do that without endangering anybody. As a matter of fact, it is probably safer than arguing with the passenger as to where to pull over.
Someone out there must have some info on the Denso unit, and where to get program update disks or something.
C6 not C5.
1) Not going to happen without a software patch. Law suit city if they don't have that disclaimer.
2) Believe it.
3) If you do this, please tell us so we can avoid being around you when you are driving. This has to be damn near the dumbest request for NAV units. You already are distracted enough, you don't need to be watching a DVD as well.
4) Again, another lawsuit waiting to happen. Requires a software patch.
Re the MP3's I thought it does play those. I havent tried it yet but i thought it advertised it that way. Unless I am thinking of my wifes Lexus. She has the Nav system too.
Plenty of other manufacturers allow you to access all of the NAV's functions while moving. My Honda Accord, for example.
Yeppers and all Honda NAV products have a very detailed disclaimer at startup that you must acknowledge before you can use the unit. I know, I have a Acura MDX.
I thought that the DVD Nav on th C6 didn't play actual DVD movies, that it was just for the Nav system. And I thought that Nav works while you're driving...cuz it sorta defeats the purpose of NAv otherwise.

1 No s__t sherlock.
2 Nothing is etched in stone.
3 While stopped, just like other systems
4 Just like other navs.
That is the point of this thread a cheat or software patch. I didn't think I needed to spell it out in great detail.

Then why did you just try?
A) I already know how to patch the software (I code for a living). I was stating that it could be done and easily. And also stating WHY it wasn't done so already.
B) The second you modify the system, you will void the warranty on the NAV and possibly put yourself in the position of a civil suit (that you will lose) if something should go wrong.
But hey, it is your equipment, your car, and your life. You want to mess up all three because you think you deserve the right to change how something was made due to safety concerns, knock yourself out.

Since you code for a living, why not get to writing and help out your fellow brethen, of course with a long disclaimer to protect yourself.
It has nothing to do with GM giving a crap about legal issues. The NAV system in the XLR plays MP3 and DVD movies and can be used while moving.
It's about making the C6 affordable. I can only assume that the NAV system is one of many places in the C6 where money was saved to keep the cost down.

a) I also code for a living, but that doesn't automatically mean one has enough info or source code to patch it, or is that something that is common knowledge? And if so where did you find it? What processor does it use? What compiler are you using? Is it an off the shelf operating system? Does it use flash or PROM for program storage? Is the program read from the DVD or stored in internal memory?
b) If it is modified it can be unmodified.

Couldn't agree more. The Nav maker on the other hand does care.

Again, agree 100%. AC3 and MPEG decoders cost money. And the General isn't known for giving stuff away for free.
I think Skull is a bit too concerned with worst-case scenarios.
That would be an understatement. The software project I am currently responsible for can kill someone if the heating unit is built incorrectly. And since the process starts with me (from a quoting/ordering perspective), I have to consider ever little thing I do that impacts how that unit is built.
