Interior disappointing.......
I have some silver (or aluminum) painted trim in my Ford Explorer. It has chipped and worn in sevral areas. I'm sure that GM did a much better job with the C6, but I was told that the chipping was a thing of the past when I bought the truck. Now it looks just like the used ones I looked at. But I don't really care I look at it as a truck.
I'm sure the C6 painted parts are better, because its in a way higher price range, But I don't mind the interior on my 04Z. I want power, and a nice paint job (read no orange peel). The interior to me just need to be comfortable and functional, durable would be good also. One thing I dislike about all the forgien cars mentioned is, that like my Dads Volvo, every button is a picture. I may be dumb, but I'll take my parents somewhere and drive thier car for them (they are in thier 80's, better I drive, well mabye not
) and I can't figure out all those Sweddish symbols
. Unless you drive the car daily or read the manual completly, it looks odd to me. American cars have always used symbols that were easily understood, at least to me
Anyone else every wonder what some symbol on a dash was for???
Keep in mind I'm not talking about your daily driver, I mean you rent or borrow or drive your Moms car etc. You jump in and cat figure how to put the windshield wipers on???

And you've seen both a loaded C6 convertable AND a folding top Lexus? Oh, let me guess. Your inside source at GM let you sneak into the BG plant and look at the plans for their 2012 fuel-cell V8 C7, and you just happened to stop and look at the C6 vert?
?
For the money GM delivers one heck of a sports car... saying that the car does not deliver on the interior quality without including what it DOES deliver in the performance area is just wrong.
If all goes well, this will be my first Corvette. I have not seen one (C6) and will wait until I do and the first year freenzy is over to get mine (that will give me a chance to see the new Z06 as well...)
If I wanted a luxury car I would be looking at other brands... I want a FUN car with power to keep a smile in my face... for under 50k there is nothing NEW out there that can deliver on this like the C6 can.
997S - MSRP - 79K add full leather, adaptive sport seats, etc... price goes to around 90k . True I have two seats for the kids in the back but the vette delivers more fun factor for half the price... We will have to see on the track... but I think the C6 with Z51 should be able to out run the 997S, it will all come down to how the brakes hold up (driver skill aside of course).
BMW M3, M5? - No thanks. M3 has had a lot of problems with engines blowing up... does not sound like a car that will last long under hard conditions. I do like the style and again, rear seats for the kids, but I also look for a reliable fun car. M5 - I never liked the looks of it and not a car to take to the track...
Mustang?... please...
Maserati Coupe - This is a car with a very nice interior... sounds awesome with that italian V8 in front...nice, 80K+ ouch... not sure how it will work on the track...
NSX - always wanted one... price vs performance has left this one behind when compared to the Corvette... still a very decent car. Priced up there in the 79k+... needs a face lift and more power...
Enough
Could not agree more. Just picked up my Machine Silver/Black coupe this past Friday. The interior is not only leagues beyond the C5 but on a par or beyond other luxury makes I have owned/leased (1997 Range Rover, 2000 S500, 2003 745Li, 2004 Volvo XC/90 T6). The heated seats are fantastic in look and feel. The voice activated NAV system is awesome and easily more sophisticated than that of any of the Euro marques we have owned/leased (especially the S500). The look of the gauge cluster and the feel of the controls befit the car. Features such XM radio were not even available on the other marques we have owned/leased. The revamped HUD system should be required equipment on all cars. The soft touch dash will wear well. Bottom line, the car’s interior is excellent. Don’t even get me started on the reliability of the supposedly superior Euro marques we have been ‘fortunate’ enough to own/lease.
I wonder if some who yearn for the perceived quality of Euro marques have ever actually leased/owned one of these cars. On the broader subject of build quality at the perceived cost pinnacle, last week's Automotive News quoted an Audi source close to the upcoming Le Mans Quattro project as saying that one of the key questions for that car’s production was that of the Lamborghini Gallardo which would form the base for the car. As the source indicated, the build quality of Lamborghini’s Gallardo was “unsatisfactory for Audi.” Nice. How much is a Gallardo?
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
No major compliants here - although that trim better not show "chips" like stated above.
I'd be amazed that in 2005 GM & Dave Hill would put out a product that would wear poorly given forums like this on the 'net and all the media attention given to just about everything - especially a new 'Vette.
So far - loving my C6!!

I have yet to see any painted plastic trim that didn't show nicks or chips easily. That is one reason why I prefer black trim parts. Damage is easier to hide and you don't see paint wear. Using plastic painted to look like metal is very cheap in my opinion. If they must use it then they could have used a silver colored plastic and not a painted plastic. That way a nick would still show silver in it and not the black plastic under the paint.
