Yea if you like playing russian ruollete with you 75k car. I know there are good dealers out there, but I swear, it seams like the level of incompetence grows more and more! 90% of the technicians(they used to be called mechanics and they were) at dealerships are incompetent. It used to be, if you took your car to the dealer, you were taking it to the experts. Not anymore!! Its a crap shoot!
I am buying a lift for my shop, and unless I drop a rocker arm(like a forum member just did), or an engine, or something major, I am doing my OWN work.............

Good writeup. I wasn't sure how to change the oil on the Z. Now I know and feel comfortable doing it myself.

Did anyone mention looking for rocker arm needle brgs?
Also, I always cut my first filter open to see if there is anything of interest inside.......sometimes find a lot of red shop rag fragments, etc.
This time, there was only a few sparklies, most none magnetic.

You guys make it seem like rocket science
WTF man!,
Why is all of this so hard to do? You guys act like you are changing an engine or something it isn't that hard!
You jack it up and remove the plugs and that's it. Make sure that you use the recommended oil and filter and it is so easy. Why would you take it to the dealer to have the work done and 90% of you complain about how the dealer is so incompetent.
It is easy, you will learn things about the car if only you get up off your butt and do the work yourself. (stop your bitchin')

You should also fill the new filter with oil before installing it on the car. It will suck up quite a bit so fill it then put some more in a minute or so later. Sticking it back in the box it came in makes a nice holder while you are doing this. Aslo don't forget to wipe some oil on the filter seal.

2). 90% of them are sharing their own personal experiences with the rest of the community, last time I checked that was called "opinion", not "complaining".
3). Calm down.
Also, I don't see anyone bitching... (Other than you)
On an unrelated matter: What brand of oil do you guys use? Anyone use Redline?

Actually, the owners manual says add 8 quarts (I know there is disagreement on this). Page 338. The it says start the engine and let it idle for at least 15 seconds. Page 338. But it also says to check when warm.

Oil change
Guys,
The 7 quarts into the engine when refilling, pouring oil into the new filter, lubricating the filter gasket and even torquing the drain plugs if you want a perfect job.
I was just trying to say that this is a routine job, and that a Corvette owner should do it by himself and while you are under there take a look around, you may find something else!
I have used Redline brand oil, drained it after a year had it analyzed and it was so good that the Titan Analysis Co said "put it back in the car!" (actually, they do work for trucking companies and I think this comment was directed at them) I didn't return it to the car, but isn't it nice to know that 1 year old it had a better TBN than some new oil does.

oil change-final check
Oh btw,
after adding 7 quarts,
drive around the block and return home, recheck the oil level on level ground after 5 minutes and add the extra oil as needed.
This is almost fun and you know that the job was done correctly because it is your car!

A friend of mine with an LS2 GTO told me that Mobil 1 is good for V-8's.
