[Z06] Z06 Long Distance Drive

The problem with having the clear bra installed before you drive it home is if it is not installed correctly or if you have any problems with it in the future you're screwed! If you are that worried about chips on the way home, buy a bra for around $100, whether it be a GM or an aftermarket it doesn't matter. Then when you get home have a quality clear bra applied by someone local.
I feel your concerns but you'll get rock chips even after the clear bra is applied! I have a few ABOVE the clear bra! But it has done its job for the most part.
Enjoy the drive home! I picked up my car in Dallas and drove it home to Vegas, no bra no nothing, but a good radar detector! I had a blast and no chips!

Thanks guys for all the excellent suggestions and ideas. That's
one of the things I like about this forum, everyone is always willing to
help another vette owner. I'm looking forward to the trip from St. Paul,
Mi. I'm flying up in the morning to purchase FRAMEBENDER'S corvette.

I picked mine up in Minneapolis and took a 2000 mile road trip back to Salt Lake. Didn't pick up any chips until after I got home. Just keep it on the main roads and watch out for hazards like blown tires on the interstate.

I remember seeing it in the For Sale section.. That's a great deal. You'll enjoy your ride home. Take your camera.

At the track I use clear shelving paper. Looks like clear bra material, but costs $10 at Home Depot. You can apply it to the nose with little impact on how it looks.
It is so amazing and will deflect just about ANYTHING. I have seen massive stones deflect off with not even a scratch.

Not the type of answer he is looking for.
Anyway why not see if there is a good local clear bra installer where you are picking the car up at? It would be a great idea to get one on it before the trip... especially for the rear brake vents. If you need some help locating one send me a PM. I am in the industry and know quite a few installers out there that do top quality work.
Have a safe drive back and congrats on the new car!

If you want to avoid chips on your haul back, buy a clear bra to take up there with you and put it on before you depart back, OR, mask it off w/ blue tape (will look funny to you, but is great for long hauls).

I use a C5 Creations lycra bra on mine. www.c5reations.com
It tales about 1 minute to install and half that to remove.
The only issue is airflow on hot days in stop'n go rush hour traffic.
you can also buy a color matching one from speed lingerie.... It avoids the air flow issue but takes a lot longer to put on and take off....

Get a hold of the best installer near the car, have them do a clear bra install with their BEST installer (3M/Venture brands) and then enjoy the car 20k+ miles every year without a care in the world, because NO ROCK CHIPS....

Temporary Clear Film
Another solution might be to apply the clear temporary film used by car shops. You can get it at Griot's Garage I believe.
Should stick well and come off when you get home. It's relatively inexpensive and should not leave any seams after removal.
Might have posted late if you're leaving soon.
Good Luck and Enjoy!

Well fellas, I made it home today, no rock chips, only BUGS and more BUGS. Got the Z
washed and put away in the garage. Enjoyed the ride from Minneapolis. I couldn't
believe all of the attention and waves I got on the trip. EVERYTIME I stopped for gas
I got compliments! This never happened when I took my C-5 on trips!!
I didn't use any protection on the car.

you do realize once you get it home it will pick up chips every time you drive it right. i have driven all of my corvettes long distances a number of times. the worst damage that has happened to them and any other car has been on short daily drives around my city. so, i decided along time ago to not worry about it.
anyway, good luck and congrats on the new z

Had our Z, which we picked up at the factory, for three days when I hit some wet leaves on the Blue Ridge Parkway at the beginning of a 6250 mile trip home. Crunched the right rocker panel and just had it fixed when I got home. It didn't detract form the trip one little bit.
We got caught in tornado like winds on one stop and saw a tornado funnel cloud from our hotel. Crap blowing everywhere. Stuff like that makes the trips memorable. I've never remembered driving along some boring interstate, waiting for the next rest area. It's kind of like golf, you always remember the really good and really bad shots, not the in betweens.

Get a bra and the mirror covers and .... put the painters tape on the painted area around the brake induction scoops in the back. You will be glad you did. Then drive the car!!! I picked mine up in Montana from Ken Fichtner and drove the long way home - 3,300 miles that I wouldn't trade for anything. The picture at left is in the Redwood National Forest in California.
