2 different sizes of the same brand and type of tires is OK. 2 different brands or even types within the brand is not ok unless you only want to putter around town.
You don't want to go through the same thing you did over the winter again because of tires.
My winter issue was all winter. Ice cold street and ice cold 8 year old tires on a straight highway.
If someone had a full blown racing setup and wanted to beat track records then of course they would run Hoosier race tires all around.
I known a few guys that eat peoples lunch at the track running any free tires they can get. Side to side matching is a must but front and back matching isn't. I seen cars use runflats with full race tires and have a ball at the track.
My new Z has less than 9k miles and is a garage queen; so I'm not tracking it. I'm more interested in how it can hold 1st and 2nd gear power on tires that can corner vs DRs with soft sidewalls. I do go over 130 on the way to Vegas and back but not pushing the tires even close to the break away limit.
Update: I did some highway runs and on a new highway the tires had zero road noise but every time I hit a imperfection on the road it was loud. I also did some good roundabout cornering and nothing rubbed. These tires feel so big and sticky that it feels like they bog the car down. Crazy...
they do not grip as well as the r888...that is 100% for sure.
That statement is absolutely opposite of everything I have read or discussed with anyone. In fact I have heard that the V720 is as fast as a race slick and significantly faster than any other DOT approved competition tire. Which along with the Aero is what is making the ACR set so many track records for production cars. If it is faster than the V710 than for sure it is much faster than the r888.
