[Z06] LS7 out LSX454 in

LS7 out LSX454 in
Stuck in the house the past month recuperating from total knee replacement and I've had some off the wall thoughts. Replacing the LS7 with a LSX454. There would be a weight increase, would it be too much. I'd want to keep the dry sump so new oil pump, pickup, and pan. No use putting the stock damper back on and reuse the intake. A horsepower increase sticking with a NA motor.
What about the injectors and computer? Would a custom tune be needed?
I'm old and occasionally on legal drugs (my excuse).

Why? Anything wrong with the current engine? Are you just bored and in need to tinker?

If you're going huge HP FI build...sure. A swap like that requires custom everything...fuel system, tuning, etc. I'd rather sell the car and take all the money you planned to throw at it, and buy a damn nice ZR1...then tastefully/conservatively mod that.
Keeping the C6Z NA...no f'n way would I do that swap.

unless the op dropped a valve and windowed the block.
Op is better off getting valve guide issue addressed by ahp and installing a mild cam And tune accordingly. I sold my c6z and bought a c7z. Wish I would have kept the c6z. Much better car and the analog feel of the dash is better than all the Mickey Mouse crap on the c7. And the stock c6z pulls harder up top then a c7z. I got my nuts cut off when I mentioned this on c7z forum.

There is no point in upgrading the block or rotating assembly unless you plan on forced induction or 200+ shot of nitrous. The LSX combo is something like 200 lb heavier, IIRC.

Big congrats, or reading further maybe not.

Looked at a '17 black w/ red carbon Z06 loaded to the 9s, MSRP in the stratosphere but also heavily discounted to essentially around what I paid for my '08.
Have to be honest, was awfully tempting, who doesn't like a brand new Corvette w/ all the LBBs? Not I.
Curiously enough the extensive electronics were quite off-putting, to me. Simply too much to go wrong w/ age vs my stupid reliable 'ol '08 Z 'friend'. Stuck w/ a known quality & reading your opinion now feel I probably made the right choice.

It ain't worth it Mr. G, tell 'em whatever they want to hear!

There are many other options available for an engine replacement than the LSX454........many. I would never add weight to a Z06 front end. HPR has several, less costly and lighter choices.

You did?

Wow, not heard many slams against a new Z but have heard a few. You're one more.

Zero good reason besides you got a free one to do that. There are far better options for less money.

Thanks for the many on point replies, I'm going a crazy here and need to get outside. In addition I must add, what was I thinking, the car as it sits will get me in all the trouble I can stand and a trailer load more.
Thanks everyone!

I paid for the sleeves but I'm good friends with a local engine builder, so that helped, it can be done

Sorry to bring up a old thread but I'm currently in a similar situation. My LS7 went a long time ago and I got a deal on a TMS 376 that I just couldn't pass up with plans of going FI. Now that the motor and car has been sitting for months now as I haven't had time, a buddy of mine is looking to buy it for me. If I sell it to him, would any of you recommend the 454? I would be looking for a very simple swap that reuses most of my LS7 stuff for just a mean, reliable N/A setup.

Still no, you can put together a nice aluminum block setup for same or less money, with better parts, and make significantly more power.

What's the fascination with the LSX454? It's not a strong performer relative to what you're paying out
