modify pipe between intercooler and blower?
I like... Richard, Where did this set up come from???J
I drove down to Vortech this afternoon and picked it up, they're local. The 1.5" dia. pipe & flange I had my muffler guy fab, the Vortech BOV is $250. After talking to Doug@ECS and a few others in the C5 FI forum, this maybe the one! I just couldn't bear the Hyperboost fluttering noise any longer.

Since I started this thread to get some help I've been following its new path on the BOV. Help is once again requested as I learn more about the supercharger I installed. What is the BOV (Blow Off Valve), see I do know what the initials stand for?
And, where is it located? I saw the picture that was posted of the OEM and the aftermarket one, however I can't seem to find where it is located. It under the shroud or someplace so obvious that I'm overlooking it?
Also, what is this fluttering vs whoosh sound thing?
Sorry to be asking questions, but I'm trying to learn along the way. Like you, I want to maximize my investment and get the most out of my car.
thanks,
Jeff
oh and as far as location goes its a sub pipe off of the main below the blower.

Thanks, nice, easy to understand explanation. Funny, I don't recall hearing anything that sounds like a bag fluttering, I guess I'll start listening for it. And, no wonder I couldn't find the BOV

Initially, on the ProCharger kit I didn't hear much of the fluttering...only until I removed the filter and adjusted the jam nut on the spring adjuster. I suppose I can bring it back to ProCharger OEM settings, but it does leak boost...hence, the upgrade to the Hyperboost, but the fluttering is unbearable. Stay tune for the Vortech Race Valve.

Jeff, you asked the location of the BOV; I took a couple of quick snap shots during the install before the dinner nite out.

IC pipe has to be removed to gain access, 8mm to unloosen the clamps.

I remove the two clamps and hose fitted on the 1.5" pipe that tees off the blower discharge duct.

I attach the 1.5" hose to the valve head (flange & mounting gasket end) of the Vortech BOV, as suggest I kept the spring adjuster fully backed off as supplied, the opening point is set as 16" Hg.

Mount the BOV/hose piece to the blower discharge duct and plug the 5/32" vaccum line to the BOV manifold vaccum port and secure it. To prevent debris entering the BOV discharge end, I mount it downwards facing the ground. Reinstall the IC pipe and clamps. BTW: the blk bar shown is the front sway bar.
Hope this helps...PM me if you have any question.

I'm told by Vortech that adding a filter to the discharge side would lessen the sound effect of the swooosh. I may test-fit a filter on it to see what sound it produces, at the time of purchase Vortech didn't have one in stock and the ProCharger filter is too large.
).If I was informed wrong, please let me know

. I was just told that it would put the extra load on the blower at all times, which obviously, it will- but I wonder if it is even enough to case the premature wear they mentioned.. Thanks.Joe
Keep us posted on the HKS ssqv. That's the way I'm starting to lean...
