Default modify pipe between intercooler and blower?

I have the D1SC and I love it. However my C6 is lowered and the pipe between the intercooler and the blower is very close to the ground. My question is, if I have the pipe shortened to get more ground clearance will that effect the SC and its functioning?

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff,
As long as you have enough pipe and coupeling to fit, and have a good seal, you're fine... in fact the shorter route for air to travel the better...

Jeremy

Thanks, just not too sure about the setup just yet. I do know that I love it and wish I had done the SC route with my C4 and C5.

Jeff, not to jump off topic here...but have you looked into replacing the substandard P-unit Bosch BOV? Jeremy & I were discussing this via PM about upgrading ours.

Over the weekend I decided to clean my BOV and tested it by blowing some air into the tube while depressing the valve mech. manually to see how well it worked. When blowing air through the tube, the air was going thru and once I depressed the valve it was wide open...so with the valve in a closed setting. I could still feel some air escaping...not as much as with the open valve, but nevertheless air escapes in the closed setting. Perhaps, considering the volume and pressure the supercharger can supply under boost to the ducting and compare it to the leak. The leak is really insignificant in the scheme of things. I only bring this subject matter up becuz a few C5 FI guys I met at a local GTG had shown me their BOV upgrades and how they gained another 1-2 PSI.

I'll be testing out the HKS SSQV unit, hope that works out better, if not the Blitz 70039 is the next choice.

Not to sound too dumb, but I'm still learning the ins and outs of the D1. What is the P-unit Bosch BOV?

it's the POS stock blow off valve that relieves the system of air pressure when you close the t.b. plate (let off the throttle)... if you didn't relieve pressure when the plate closes, it would damage the T.B. and try to back up through the S.C. impeller = NO good...

No wurries buddy, you & I and a few others are still learning the ins and outs. Jeremy accurately explains it's function!

Here's a picture of it, you may recall seeing it during your install:

Hey Sean!

Looking to probably do it this weekend, I purchased the Hyperboost BOV thru Brian @ ICS Performance (GREAT customer service!!!) as he suggested this would produce somewhat of a whooossse sound (ala Turbos) that I'm looking for. The HKS unit has a higher pitch chirp sound. Also, I plan on replacing the current worm clamps for T-bolt clamps since I'll have access to the area; our ProCharger kit includes (9) #52 clamps, (4) #56 clamps, (2) #64 clamps.

Here's a picture of the Hyperboost BOV:

BTW: Any luck finding a local installer for the gears??

Hi Richard, let me know the degree of difficulty for that install, and how much did that BOV cost? I am talking to L.A.P.D about the gears and I plan on going there, but I am still getting my ducks in a row and researching some things so when I go in, I can get everything done related to that install at once. Sean

Sean...sure thing Bro! Hyperboost BOV cost $160 + shipping, the HKS SSQV (VW & Audi specific) cost $325. Both can be purchased thru Brian @ ICS Performance and he regularly stocks the items. Okay...holler at my cell when you plan on stopping by at LAPD, we'll meet up...something about you oweing me a $50 lunch, I vaguely recall.

Had a chance to install the Hyperboost BOV this evening, fairly straight forward (about an 1 hrs time, including the constant nagging phone call by the girlfirend!)...I used the existing 1.5" P-kit hose that tees off and attached a 1" reducer to the barb of the Hyperboost unit for a snug fit. You'll have to remove a portion of the IC pipe to get access to that area.

Took her for a quick spin, and I noticed 1st and 2nd gear shifts is were the WHOOOOSSH sound is more prominent, it's certainly attracts attention. I also ran the ProCharger BOV w/o the filter for two days and adjusted the spring setting on the top w/ an allen, had this continous annoying fluttering sound...

Brian at ICS Performance has been a great help via email, holler at him if your looking to add some turbo noise to your blower...he's tried several units.

Jeff...didn't intend to steer your thread to a different direction, my apologies buddy!

Hi Mike,

I don't have a part number for you (probably a universal piece), kindly give Brian a call (203.653.2394) for that info. Also, the way I mounted the BOV from the output of the blower to the non piston side of the BOV, so the pressure isn't againt the piston or spring and re-install the 5/32" vaccum line to the nipple of the BOV....let me know if you have any questions.

Also, I plan on trying out the HKS SSQV unit too, I'll wait a week or so.

Here's a link to a video of Brian's wicked ProCharger C5 using the HKS BOV:
http://www.icsperformance.com/icsz062.htm

Good luck!
Richard

Mike...hang tite! I had the opportunity to drive the car most of the day and I'm hearing that annoying fluttering noise (sounds like a pissed off squirrel) once again, I'll give Brian a call tomorrow and get his take on it. However, I've heard from others that this is normal.

Thanks Jared! I spoke with Doug@ECS and a few other FI gurus and they stated the same...however, suggested less with the Vortech Race Valve. I know the HKS is fav of yours...let us now how it works out in your setup!

So here's the next weekend project...
