Ok, so I'm looking at building my LS2 to handle 1000whp. If I reuse my block, do you think I could get a built block installed for $10k? I like RPM, FSP, Livernois, LME, and Fountain Race Engine but I think I'd have to spend more then 10k out the door. What have you guys spent on your block?
You could most likely re-use your crank, go with forged rods and pistons, etc and get it done. Now, 1000whp is likely the safe maximum on that crank. Not to say it wouldn't handle 1200 or more, but reliably? Eh.
That leaves you at the stock stroke and with 4 bolt heads, which if the tune is right should be able to hold 1000whp, but there are multiple variables.
So it all depends on what you want. Do you just want a rwhp number? Are you shooting for 1/4 mile times, 1/2 mile, etc. ? Do you want a certain size block (ie. something that would require a bigger stroke, therefore a different crank) ?
You could do an ERL superdeck package, but if you aren't doing the install you'll go over 10k for sure. You may look at selling your LS2 and buying an LSX if the 120 lbs or so extra weight doesn't bother you.
You should be able to do it for that price if you don't get raped on labor.
Keep your block, have the main caps pinned/studded and the machine work done.
Get a forged crank, rods, pistons from k1/wiseco.
Use your stock heads, fill them with good ferrea valves and a good spring kit, bolt them down with head studs.
Get a custom cam.
That should cost about $6k all said and done and will support 1000whp all day.
