Default Head studs

I see a lot of people installing S/C and turbos themselves, how many of you guys are studding the heads while you're at it? I'm thinking about doing it while I'm in there. Plan on running a 3.4" or 3.6" to get 10-13# and around 700rw

Always good to do. I'm using the knockoff ARP ones torqued to 80 ft lb.

I don't remember many people around here doing it for the 700rwhp range.. seems more common ls1tech where they take a truck block and go for 800+

If the heads are off, yes.

Like they said, if heads are off go for it, but no reason to touch anything for <850rwhp. I wouldn't crack a factory head seal unless absolutely needed.

I was swapping the heads and Cam while installing my blower. So naturally, it made sense to go ahead and do it then.

If the heads are off at a minimum use ARP bolts vs the factory (easier to torque) I never will never trust myself to do torque angle.

No matter what aftermarket studs you use, china or arp, make sure the bolt holes are clean and not full of water. There are plenty of articles online about china studs breaking and threads stripping. I would attribute 90% of these to not getting all of the water out and vapor locking. I personally use ARP whenever I can BUT in my latest motor I tried the china ones just because with a setup that has made over 1000. So far.. so good.

Should be using the ARP thread cleaner too before putting anything in.

Yup, chase them and clean them before putting studs in.
