Question about ZR1 Mufflers
I came across someone selling some with the actuators locally. My question is since my car is already equipped with the NPP setup can I just simply swap out the mufflers and everything be good or is there more to it? I think the ZR1’s have bigger tips but anything else different externally?

It’s a base model so I doubt it

NPP, ZR1, Z06 all have the same size tips. However, the NPP have 2 1/2" diameter pipe and the ZR1/Z06 have 3" piping that neck down at the muffler. So you will need to have adapters or reverse reducers to mate the 2 1/2" NPP mid pipe to your 3" Z06 mufflers. Also, if your car is an auto, you will need to make some slight adjustment on the muffler pipe for clearance. The ZR1/Z06 were all 6 speed manuals.

Cleanest (most expensive too) way is to get some Z mids for your headers. Another way is to bell out the ends of your current mids to fit the Z muffs. Or, use your over the axle pipes and weld them to the Z mufflers.
Edit: I think they changed the way the mufflers were hung after the 2008 year model on the narrow body cars. Something to look into. May or may not be an issue.

I have Lg headers and X pipe now but switching to ARH 2”. If they don’t fit it’s no big deal. They are just cheap enough that it made me curious if the mufflers were a direct swap. I know mine will handle anything I throw at it.

Still possible but what I really need to know is how different they are from the ones I currently have? From all that I’ve read is internally they are the same but are 3” vs 2.5” and may have larger tips. I just need this confirmed along with if they’ll just bolt on. Otherwise I’ll stick with my current mufflers.

The internals are very similar, except for the pre 2011 Z06 mufflers have perforated by-pass pipe. The 2011+ Z06, all NPP's and all ZR1's have solid by-pass pipe making the exhaust sound a little louder. NPP are 2 1/2" exhaust and the Z06/ZR1 are 3" that neck down at the muffler.
If the Z06 exhaust has perforated tips like the NPP and ZR1, then the by-pass pipe in the muffler is solid. If not, then the by-pass pipe is perforated.

what about cats and mid pipes
Hey guys I saw someone got the thread going again last year so here goes again. Great thread to learn about the mufflers but is there power and convenience to be found in the catylitic converters (ZR1 cats) and will they bolt up to the Z06 manifolds?
The thing is I'm returning my complete high mileage Frankenstein exhaust system to OEM and have a good line on ZR1 cats, x pipe etc.
My second "problem" is that the seller has later model (post 2010) ZR1 exhaust (compete cats to muffler system) and my c6 Z car is an 06. Will it fit?
I have researched enough to see that the OEM part numbers appear to be different online for the cats, which is the most important thing to k now since the most difficult to modify if needed to make fit. Otherwise I'm pretty sure the ZR1 cats, if different would be a better fit for my supercharged Z06.
thanks.

GM can have multiple part numbers that apply to different models, but are the same part.
My understanding is that the Z06/ZR1 share the same exhaust manifolds, main catalytic converters and mid pipe.
In 2011+ the Z06 changed to the ZR1 mufflers with different part numbers.
In 2012, both Z06 and ZR1 mid pipe have the additional small catalytic converters in the mid pipe ( 4 total) not ideal for a supercharged Z06. So just make sure the seller's (post 2010) mid pipe does not have cats.
I believe all Z06/ZR1 exhaust will interchange, however I am not sure with the catted mid pipe in 2012+ will? Maybe someone will chime in to confirm.
Personally, I have 2009 Z06 exhaust with 2011 Z06/ZR1 mufflers on my manual base 2008 corvette and it was a complete bolt on.

Maybe it isnt that bad and really cleans up the exhaust...I'm really not wanting to smell that exhaust anymore.
Seems that once your cats are gone it might just be easier to get long tubes and matching X pipe with cats.
