Just running a flat 58psi is perfectly fine for a lot of people. I have an external regulator but only because I wasn't sure the in tank one could handle the second pump coming on without being overwhelmed. Maybe it would have been fine. I just set it right at 58psi and it's worked fine.

So basically what you're saying is when your secondary pump turns on it could overwhelm the stock regulator and spike the psi over 58 so you have a second regulator up front to return the excess fuel if it sees over 58psi?

Correct.

It's nice to have some flexibility on fuel pressure to increase it if you're running out of injector but have plenty of pump or decrease it if you have plenty of injector but not enough pump.

If you have enough of both for 58psi then it's fine just staying a flat 58psi too, IMO anyways.

But the way I understand it, unless you do the block offs in the tank, you will never be able to go over 58lbs. If your fuel is dropping below 58 lbs under boost, you need more pump. If you need more pressure to reduce your injector DC, a boost referenced regulator still isnt going to be able to boost pressure over 58 lbs without the block offs.

I'm not trying to go over or under 58psi, just didn't think the factory regulator could handle that second pump coming on so I set this one also at 58psi
