Default Boost Options

Been throwing around the idea of boosting my 2010 M6 Grand Sport. Car currently has a BTR Stage 3, ported heads, exhaust, and Monster LT1S clutch. I had RPM go through and freshen up the trans last year while I had it out. Car made 490 to he wheels and its been a blast, but I feel like some boost would make it 10x more fun. Pushing towards a centri style blower with low boost. Not looking to break records here and definitely don't want to run meth if I don't have to. Just something to make the car wake up a little. Is anyone currently running a blower with the BTR Stage 3, and if so, what's the rest of your setup? Thanks in advance!

Do it you’ll love it! With all of the supporting mods you have it’ll make good power on low boost.

Going for a ride in a boosted C6 will clear up any confusion from which you now suffer.

Why no meth?

That cam will do just fine though. If it makes power NA, it'll make power FI. ECS or A&A kit will get you there no problem.

I was hesitant about having meth injection. Now that I have it and understand what it does for me I am very happy about having it.

Thanks guys. I guess I just don’t like the idea of being limited on how many pulls I can make on a single tank of meth. I’ve contemplated switching to E85, but I’m curious what I could get out of the car just being tuned for 93.

It lasts a longggg time. I've driven to 1/2 mile events, made 4-5 1/2 mile pulls and driven home and still barely used any. Just depends.. it's not nearly as much of a limiting factor as you'd think though, nothing like keeping a nitrous tank full

Something like a T trim or S trim will be fine on 93 will make 600-700 HP with ease and pretty much require zero major upgrades or maintenance. You can always pulley your setup harder later on and go with pump & meth or E85.

600rwhp on 93, probably. 700rwhp on 93, doubt it reliably

I probably lose more meth to evaporation than I use. LOL

The HP I get from having meth injection is great. Even better, it provides inside the combustion chamber cooling when you need it most, when the blower pressure, IAT's and engine rpm are highest.

They guy who built up my car did what you are talking about, initially an A&A kit with the 3.8" pulley. A little while later he changed to a 3.6" pulley and added meth.

A $45 can of M1 meth will last you all season. It is not like NO2. You use very little at a time.

Don't let this discussion dissuade you though. You will be VERY happy with a V-3 Si and the 3.8" pulley!!!!!

What kind of weak links are created by doing a blower on an LS3 car? What other considerations are there? It seems to easy/perfect, lol... I have full exhaust and am consdiering an A&A kit as well. Dont want to create a headache though. Want a reliable, easy fast Vette...

600rwhp kits are really reliable, there aren't really any major negatives IMO. Clutch won't last forever at that level, tires will go faster, etc. basic stuff like that.

It's more pressure on everything. Higher cylinder pressure, more forces on everything obviously.

Piston ring lands are the weak link IMO.. if it's tuned correctly and you have enough octane they'll survive a really long time. People have done 750-800rwhp for years and beat the crap out of them and they've survived. 550-600rwhp will live for pretty much ever IMO unless the tune is crap or you're just super unlucky. Or both.

Lots of good info guys! Much appreciated! A buddy of mine had a boosted GS and ran meth. He went through a whole tank in a single night of spirited driving which is why I was initially against the idea. Hearing these other experiences definitely makes it seem like more of a viable option.

It's not a bad option.. just have to keep an eye on it. if you were racing back to back to back to back to back for literally hours then maybe it could become a little annoying? I just never really do that, even at 1/2 mile events I didn't go through very much so it was never an issue for me. I dunno. There's always E85

I’m only at 650rw and it’s supercar fast. Very sketchy on 20” street tires. Boost completely transforms the car. Invest in a good tune and tires. You’ll love it!

My only tip is do not get into boost unless you're pointed straight... Even going around a small turn + boost and you'll be doing donuts into a ditch in no time.

My car has a similar sized cam with a ECS1500. On 91/meth it made 630whp on 8psi.

I've since done a Fore fuel system and upped the boost. With flex fuel/meth on 13 psi I'm at 780whp.

You'll love the boost

What pulley size, etc are you running for 780?

Wow. That’s crazy you’re getting that much with that pulley. I’m on a 3.25”
