We are being careful with it right now because my IAT's are little out of control but even without pushing it the trans has been a nightmare. Is there anyone that's a major 6l80 tuning guru for these things? We made huge improvements but the car still feels kinda sluggish on the shifts. Here's timeslip from thursday night of the car spinning through 1st and shifting early to try and keep IAT's down....its pulling all the timing out anyways up top lol.
The car didn't feel sluggish at all. But everytime I'd start building max boost the transmission would act up and the car would go into limp mode. Once the trans started heating up it would not cool down unless it sat for an hour. Then she would act fine until nearing peak boost. Then she'd heat up and wouldn't shift at all. 44mph 2400rpm with no shift.... just building heat.

My guess is the converter but now im torn... patch up the 6l80 and converter or put all funds towards the 4L80E swap and pulley the **** down....

That’s a pricey swap to say the least. Once you get over the money part, the 4L80E trans is really the only option for a near bullet proof deal while retaining overdrive for this platform at least. I’ve been extremely pleased with my 4L65E swap so far, but I’m worried how long it will hold to my newest combo. RPM has plenty of them running around in the 1k whp range, but I wonder how many of those are actually raced & beat on regularly. I’m planning to test mine out over the next several months to see how it does. Let us know what you find out with your set-up.

Old sbe, heads/cam, nitrous combo. Car was on the limiter at the 1k foot mark because of the 26” tall tires, then came the wide booty quarters so I could stuff some 28s on it.

Update: sending the car to Century transmission for a level 2 6L80E. They are rated at 1100rwhp with a 6 month warranty.

Will also be pully down.

Circle D is building me a triple disc 3400-3600 stall for the Century Transmission Level 2.

Be back on the streets in 12 days. Prolly drive it a bit, then get a smaller pulley.

Good choices on both of those shops. Mike has built several transmissions for me over the years & I’ve run more than a couple Circle D converters on multiple combos. I knew the the 6Ls could be upgraded, but I didn’t know they could handle that much! How high do the levels go? I’ve done enough reading to know a lot of what makes those live is in the keyboard work, & it seems not everyone has that part figured out. Good news. Let us know when you get it back together.

-Level 1 700 rwhp
-Level 2 1100 rwhp

6 month Warranty

1800$ refresh

Can't recall the exact quote but like 7500$ for everything installed [Minus the converter purchase]

Really impressed by Mike at century and Dan over at Circle D. I'll keep everyone posted on the progress.

Good deal. Didn’t realize they had gotten that far with the development on those transmissions. Mike is a good guy, a racer, & very knowledgeable. I’d expect some good results.

I asked him how long can you expect the 6L80E to last nearing that hp (1100).

He said he's got customers that he hasn't heard from in 4-5 years or longer, so they must be running strong. There's always gonna be outliers in terms of breaking it when it shouldn't, and lasting longer than it should. I have accepted that I may need to send it in to be freshened up occasionally but at 1800$ +/- that's gonna take a long time to equal the 4L80E swap cost.

Absolutely. That 4L80 swap is spendy & it’s not a complete bolt up deal, some massaging & cutting are involved. Just about any other platform, the 80E is an immediate go to solution if trying to retain OD & hold a decent amount of power that most of these FI combos are reaching. I ordered my car in late ‘06, back then people were hurting the 6spd autos with bolt on cars, amazing how far they’ve come.

I didnt motor feels sluggish...the transmission is sluggish on the shifts. Like it is slow completing the shift and is soft.

Update:

Got the trans upgraded, converter upgraded and dropped back off at twenty first century muscle cars. Had a few minor issues like headlights and windshield wipers not working and my ac blower fan going out. So those got fixed but the best part is we pully'd down and are making more power. Said we ran out of fuel at 16lbs so they upgraded the fuel pump and hit the dyno.

We don't talk rwhp numbers anymore 🤣🤣🤣 so I don't know what it makes but he said it's making over 16lbs on the dyno but told me it will make 17-18lbs on the street which tells me maybe he's spinning on the dyno.

💪💪💪

Mine always made more boost on track/street vs dyno. If it made 17 on dyno, it was 1 or 1.5 more in real world. Got me in trouble few years back, made 21lbs on dyno and then on track, it'd make more than ecm/map sensor would read ha.

Mo powa mo problems! Who doesn't love a good money pit!

Needs bigger injectors and head gaskets. The buildup on this setup is exciting. We fix one problem to expose another. I'll just go ahead and say it out loud.... axles.... bet those bitches break next 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤣🤣🤣
