If you don't ever drive in such a way that skip shift conditions are met, you won't ever encounter it. For a lot of people, though, it's pretty obnoxious having a standard transmission tell you how to drive your car.
Thanks,

The CAGS solenoid came factory installed on most if not all C5 and C6 manual transmissions to avoid the gas guzzler tax. It forces you to shift from 1 to 4 above a certain RPM point (somewhere around 3,000) rather than letting you shift however you want, whenever you want. This kit just bypasses the solenoid without permanently modifying the car or disrupting any other standard functions.

That's why I am trying to get a grasp on the product, I may infact have a need for it, I just can't see how others are using it.
Thanks again all,
Shane

Thanks Dave, we can take this offline if you want but I have a 2005 manual c6 and thought I could stay in 1st, go into 2nd whenever, and same for 3rd and 4th... I have never been blocked from going into 2nd or 3rd driving around town.

Ok, I am feeling pretty stupid. I have an 09 C6 with manual transmission. I sometimes see the dashboard light come on, they 1-4 light which I assume is telling me to shift gears. Most of the time it is when I am in 1st. This device is supposed to eliminate the auto gear shift that sounds more like it goes with an automatic paddle shift trans?
Or does it just eliminate the dash light coming on? Because obviously with a manual trans it is in the gear I want it to be in. Please excuse my ignorance about this but I am just having trouble understanding exactly what it is for.
Thanks

When you're using low throttle in 1st gear, and are within a certain RPM range, that light on the dash will come on. if you choose to shift gears while that light is on, a solenoid guides the shifter towards 4th gear once you pull it out of 1st. Sometimes when this happens i'll just leave the clutch in until the light goes away and shift to 2nd. When I get forced into 4th the RPMs are quite low most of the time and it just doesn't sound healthy.
