Is there anyone out there from the Houston area that knows any of the folks that used to be with MTI? They are now out of business and no longer tuning cars. I took my car to Fastlane for a tune and have been informed that the fine folks at MTI locked the tune.
If anyone has a phone number I'd very much appreciate it. Thanks.
head over to the stealership and have them flash it
Won't work. The stealership may either replace it with a new PCM or declare your warranty void for having the tune.
If they do replace it, they may send it to GM where the tune would be discovered...and not only warranty voiding, but warranty fraud would be on your agenda.
Just buy a new module to replace it and tune it yourself.

Locked tune and you say, tuner out of business. Beautiful.

Depending on what it was tuned with, they may or may not be able to reflash it.

And just how do you "make sure" that he didn't lock it? Ask him?..... The last time I had an ECM tuned, the tuner was using software program and didn't even know that it was locking ECMs by default.

If you buy a new pcm it has to be set up by the dealer and you will be able to keep your old one.
You can also have 2 pcms setup for your car 1 stock 1 modified and be able to swap them as you please.

so your saying i could go to the dealer and purchase a new pcm for my 08 A6 then swap out the pcm's have the new one tuned for what mods i may have then when i go to the dealer for anything i just install the original never tuned pcm that came with the car?

Yes you can. Mechanic may say they won't work when taken out but they do. Keep in mind with an A6 I think more then just the pcm is tuned I have a m6.
My situation was that I was going to install a supercharger but my pcm was locked so I couldn't get the sc tune installed. I bought a new pcm and had the dealer set it up. Then they put the locked pcm back in and it still worked. I also swapped them once just to make sure.

MTI may not have locked your computer intensionally, if they used an early version of LS2-edit it would lock the computer.

I may be incorrect but I believe a tuner should be able to reflash back to a stock tune and then you could have them retune.

If there is anyone who can who can look at you computer and assist you with getting done what you want to have done, it is Julio at CARTEK. He is a top-gun in designing engine performance packages and tuning for ultimate performance.
Most have a problem when you own the car and then someone tries to own your ecm...
The way i look at it is: Everything on my car is mine, NO EXCEPTIONS! If i pay for a service,i paided for it,and i will do with it what i want...I don`t have to ask no one for nothing, espcially when its my own car that I paided for...Get it?
If not, get HPtuners.
