Default Reduced Engine Power - Service TS

Dammit!

This is the second time I've had this happen. Hit the brakes hard today (someone was cutting me off) and I got this message on the DIC, the traction control went off and the car is now in reduced engine power mode (e.g. barely drivable).

Last time this happened I took the car in to the dealer and they reset the computer. They called GM and GM said that it was nothing. Well that was only last week and now it's happended again!

I have an appointment to take the car in tomorrow, hopefully the dealer can figure out what the hell is going on. Is there any way to get the car back up to full power without hooking up a tech2? So what if the traction control is off, I still know how to drive.

Also, anyone else have this problem?

The worst thing is the reduced engine power. I mean come on GM, I can drive the car without traction control.

Update: After work today when I started the car it's now back up to the normal power, however, the check engine light is on. So something obviously reset itself after several hours. Hopefully they can figure out what the hell is going on here.

Ok, the dealer says I need a new gas pedal! Apparently they have been talking to the engineerings guys at GM and think that the gas pedal is on the fritz.

How many times do I have to take it in before the lemon law kicks in?

Depends on the state. Usually they get 3 tries to fix a given problem, but the details vary by state.

This sort of intermittant electrical problem can be difficult to find and fix the first time. The diagnostic codes help, but they aren't a panacea. Sometimes they lead you in the wrong direction. Until mechanics get a lot more experience with these cars, lots of problems are going to require swapping out parts and waiting to see if the problem comes back. You probably don't want to invoke the lemon law just yet on this one.

2300 miles no similar problems yet, but have not really hit brakes hard yet. the window indexing problem just occured and the threads found here regarding that fixed it and saved me a trip to the dealer, Thanks to those who solved that one( hold window down button for 5 seconds then up for 5 second, worked great. Had my Corsa's installed at the dealer and there is a pretty good rattle now of exhaust hitting on something so it looks like I won't escape the trip entirely. The punctured ac condenser is now fixed. That occured while making my own cold air intake and didn't see the condenser right in front of the radiator. Costly mistake! but all significant systems seem well at his point, No regrets on purchase!! Do have one question on the competition mode setting I understood that sideways motion would be limited but could do a decednt burn out in a stright line but I appear to getting some braking during this practice, makes me think the first trip to the drags should start at the line with all systems off then see if I could get it into comp mode before shift into second. Any thoughts from those of you have have been workin it hard already? Thanks

You might want to talk to steve in this forum he is getting the same reduced engine power message as yourself.

Good luck I hope they figure everything out.

Ok more info. I think I may understand this problem now. I wasn't paying attention the first time it happened. The second time I hit the brakes HARD, but it was after a hard acceleration.

Well when I got the car back yesterday on my way home I floored the car and got the warning again. So in fact I do think it is a problem with the sensors in the gas peddle not agreeing. I'm think that the reduced engine power and service traction system are probably the symptoms that the car gives you when you have a traction control system OR a related system code like the accelerator. Anyway, the car is perfectly drivable, as the reduced engine power goes away if I let the car sit for a few hours. I'll let everyone know how it goes after the part gets here in a few days.

I'd be interested in finding out what the ultimate fix is. I had the same symptoms but the car was basically undrivable. Plus my gremlin is traveling. Showed up 1st as a locked steering column then a crank no start condition and finally very similar to what you desribed. I have something causing these components to fail. I am thinking a bad ground somewhere but how long will it take GM to find it. They have one more chance after this before lemon law kicks in in NY.

If it is a P2138 code that the dealership finds, they should probably change the accelerator pedal. If it is something else, let me know, I bought a service manual.

i had the same problem my dic was saying servive traction system though, also took it in to dealer were they did nothing and if i gave it gas hard on a rainy day the traction system would disengadge and the service traction system light would come on but they never found out the problem so let us know.
