I took off the gas cap and carefully put it back on numerous times with two clicks. This an emmision issue? Anyone have any other information or thoughts? Today I was going to refill with some gas for the first time. It does not look like I will be driving it for awhile after tommorrow.
Happened to me at about 1000 miles. Stayed on for days and then went out the day I was taking it to the dealer for service. They said I had some kind of vac leak in the system and it could take a few days to fix. Two hours later they called me to say it was a loose wire in the system and it was fixed. Maybe they just wanted to bill Gm?
I thought using the reset button was a good idea but it did not do the trick for me. I have not been able to schedule an appointment due to the weather but have managed to sneak in 500 miles. I ran the rpms to 6K and for some odd reason that did the trick so far. Wierd. My dirty car now needs a cleaning minimally and a detailing.

The car does a series of self-tests at startup. One of those tests is for a vacuum leak in the fuel system. This is an emissions issue because the EPA regulates the amount of evaporative emissions a car can produce. A sealed fuel system is the major barrier to evaporative emissions.
Usually, when you get this warning, the gas cap isn't sealing properly. But there are a number of lines going in and out of the tank, carbon canister, etc which make up the evaporative emissions subsystem. A vacuum leak anywhere in the system will generate the error message. A faulty vacuum sensor or loose wire can be the culprit too.
I get that on the DIC of my Silverado once in a while. I take the cap off and crank that sucker on 5-7 or more clicks. I also noticed that happend when the flap was not latched too.
I have mine at the dealership now for the second time with this issue. Last time they replaced the gas cap (and I told them that was almost certainly not the problem). Of course, the code came right back. Now they have found a hole in one of the evap lines up front, which I'm sure is the problem. It looks almost like a hole that could have been chewed by a mouse; wierd. Nothing close to it to rub, so it's strange. (The tech left the evap line he removed lying on my passenger seat, dripping something on the leather; nice touch!) Anyway, as with the gas cap, getting parts for this car is almost impossible it seems; might take a week from Flint or somewhere; very disappointing. Due to scheduled tire and alignment work tomorrow, I told the service manager to tape the evap line with duct tape and put it back together, since I have to have it today. I realize most of the service dept folks do their best, but these things are frustrating. Good luck.
