You can get brake pads that don't stop as well...pretty weird on a sports car isn't it? Go for more of the ceramic type pad...

the Ceramics will reduce dust or change it to tan dust and take longer to stop your car. Ceramics are fine for normal street driving, you just have to get use to the little extra distance to stop your car.

Didn't someone mention earlier that there's a spray or coating you can apply to the pads that will reduce the brake dust?

How about Hawk HPS brake pads? Anyone know if they will do the job and fit the Z-51? Another question for the mechanics: I got the calipers off the front, but how do you remove the pads from the calipers? The rear pads just slipped off?

I used Hawk HPS one weekend. They had more dust then an Oklahoma dust storm. worst dusting pad I have ever used. stopping was not that good either. The C5 Z06 pad fits nicely and works far better. The actual caliper is the same on the C5 and the C6 so pads are interchangable.

any spray coating on the brake pads will make the car NOT stop as well. same with ceramic pads. Tan dust and less stopping power so it takes longer to stop your car.

Performace cars need performace brakes = brake dust. No two ways around it. Wash the wheels and car more often. a good wax, Zaino or what ever makes the dust come off quicker too.

When you have the caliper off the pads just fall out. You will need to push the caliper piston back in to get the pads back in place. Use two C-clamps, one on each pistion to push them back in.

Tom, the rear pads did just fall out, but the front pads won't come off the caliper. I have the caliper off and the pads are still in. Someone else said you have to pry them off, but I don't wont to damage anything. I even tapped lighty them with a rubber hammer and they don't budge. What's the secret?

The car only has 1,900 easy miles on it.

Get a bigger hammer. Seriously, the factory C6 front pad backing plate has some adhesivie gunk on it, and it takes more force than seems appropriate to break it loose, especially the first time. I just bought some factory C5 ZO6 pads, and they don't have anything like that on them; don't know why it's there, maybe an anti-rattle tactic.

Call Parts Bob at Ficthner Chevrolet in Montana
They have the new C6 ceramic pads that dust 10% of the stock ones.

They will stop just as good, but not for competition or track days. Good for auto-xing.
