Default Resetting ECU

New member here, so be tolerant. I'm sure this has been beaten to death already, but a search didn't really yield much. The computers are supposed to be adaptive, so is there any benefit to disconnecting battery before mods (exhaust, CAI, etc.).

I did it both ways with various mods on my Magnum, and didn't really see any difference (other than I had to do the recalibration for throttle and traction control every time).

Also, can someone help with a reconnect procedure...all the things that need to be done after.

The only thing I did to my C5 was a CAI, and someone else put it on. I'm an old hot rodder, so the computer stuff is a little new to me.

Thanks in advance.

I haven't disconnected my battery, and I've installed exhaust, CAGs eliminator, changed speakers, and done a bunch of other stuff without disconnecting it.

If you're going to do some electrical system work you would want to disconnect it.

To my knowledge from reading other threads, the only thing that gets messed up when you disconnect the battery is the window indexing. Everything else seems to have good memory features.

After you reconnect the battery, you have to re-index the windows as described in the Owner's Manual - just close the door, raise the window all the way and continue to hold the switch up for 3 seconds, release the switch, then hold it up for 3 seconds again.

Thanks, that's good news. I would always disconnect for electrical work, but just wasn't sure about the "learn faster" if it is reset claims. I saw the indexing in the manual, but got worried with the items that can be left out. On my Magnum, you have to steer all the way left and right to reset the traction control, and do a throttle calibration after each battery disconnect...that information appears to be a Daimler secret of some sort that isn't printable in a manual for some reason .

Thanks again for the info. I just put my Magnaflows on today, and did not disconnect. Now I've got to pick out my favorite CAI!!!
