Would someone breakdown the C6 VIN. I am looking for the date code to see where my C6 falls for the damper bolt problem cut-off date of 341. Preparing to take the Vette on it's first long drive -1,900 miles. I appologize in advance if this has been covered before . I searched a halve dozen ways and couldn'ed find it in past posts.
There's no date code in the VIN. However, you can find the month and year in the door frame of your car.
This is an example of a VIN # for a 2001 Corvette Convertible:
1 G 1 Y Y 3 2 G 1 1 5 1 0 0 0 0 1
There are 17 characters. Starting with first character on left the codes are:
1. "1"= Built in US
2. "G"= General Motors
3. "1"= Chevrolet
4. Denotes the car line: Corvette is a "Y" body.
5. Provides more info about the car:
Usually a "Y" but the ZR-1 is "Z"
6. Body style: "1" = FRC, "2" = Coupe, "3" = Convertible
7. Restraint code
8. Engine:
L98="8"
LT1="P"
ZR1="J"
LT4="5"
LS1="G"
LS6="S”
LS2=”U”
9. Random number issued by the computer as a check.
10. Model year:
"B" thru "N" are yrs '81-'92 respectively
"P"='93
"R" thru "T" '94-'96
"V"='97
"W"='98
"X"='99
"Y"='00
"1"='01
“5”=’05
11. Plant: Bowling Green = "5"
12-17. Production sequence number that starts with the #1 for each model yr.

From what I understand the engine date code of 341 is no longer the cutoff. The new cutoff is VIN's ending in 11039 and under.
As long as the last 5 digits of your VIN are over 11039 you should be okay.
As an example my date code is 336 but my VIN is 11250 and according to GM mine has the fix.
The date code you are looking for is on the engine. The sticker is located on the drivers side above the oil pan. There is another identical sticker located on the rear of the driver's side head. The one on the head can be seen with a mirror. Below are some pictures of the location of the stickers.
