Default Factory chrome wheels

When I inquired about the wheels at my local dealer, they told me that could install FACTORY chrome wheels for an additional $1500. Whats the difference in these wheels and the replicas that most of our site vendors sell? I noticed that some are only chrome on the lip and the spokes and the backside is left the aluminum color. Is there an advantage of paying the extra for dealer installed wheels?

As far as I know there are no "factory chrome " wheels. Your choice of three; silver painted, comp gray and polished. There are no OEM chrome wheels. There are companies selling chromed factory wheels and companies selling chromed reproduced wheels but GM does not sell a Chrome wheel for the C6. Don't confuse the Dealer with GM. the Dealer can sell you Chrome wheels that fit but they aren't original GM Chrome wheels.

All chrome C6 wheels are produced by the aftermarket, there are no chrome "factory" wheels. (There will be for 06, but not now.)

Now *some* of them are OEM wheels that have been chromed by an aftermarket shop. That's what WCC sells, for example. Others are "reproduction" wheels that look like OEM wheels but are actually imported from some foreign source then chrome plated. The quality of the reproduction wheels varies. The OEM wheels are good quality, and if the chrome plater does his job properly, they'll look good.

At $1500, the dealer is clipping you for about $500 more than if you get the wheels *exchange* from WCC or one of the other aftermarket vendors who advertise here (the dealer is going to pocket the exhange value of the wheels that come on the car). Import "reproduction" wheels can cost even less, but you're taking somewhat of a chance on the quality of the wheel when you buy reproduction wheels.

Run real fast from that dealer. Find another local dealer who knows wheels and Corvettes. No such thing as chrome wheels for the 2005 C6.

Sounds like your dealer is charging you $750.00 to install 4 wheels. I just exchanged my stock painted rims for chromed OEM wheels. They look great, and I had them in 3 days. $750.00 exchanged thru the Corvette Clinic in San Jose. Paid a local shop experienced in mounting Corvette wheels $80.00 to mount and balance. You still end up about $800.00 less than the factory option for ''Polished Wheels" and they look infinitly better.
