I wouldnt know that....I dont have the memory package.
1SA/SX? Wow, how'd you get a "stripper"?
The memory feature is great, especially the automatic exit - I have it set to put the seat all the way back and raise it, to ease getting in/out.
Regardless, there are enough visual and audible cues to remind you to put the thing in reverse.
While forgetting to do so, could make you subject to DBS, if this is the WORST design snafu in this car, I can count my blessings (but it ain't - my pet peeve is the cheezy, so easy to scratch bezel for the radio/shifter console).

1SA and Z51. I ordered it from my local dealer in April AND they knocked off 1,000! My C5 had the memory package which I really wanted on the C6. I couldnt see spending the 4300.00 for the 1SB, since the only thing I really desired in that package was the memory. It really is convenient and I miss it. But, now I'll put the 3,000 saved into wheels and an exhaust. I did like the ala carte options available with the C5 which really let you build up the car any way you like.
Okay, I will give a little on the idea that something has to allow for a acc position not being available. However, I think there is plenty of capability in the PCM to have the car look at several things like vehicle speed, time, door opening event....etc....This isn't brain surgury, just very poor execution by GM.....
As for the electrical gizmos you guys are so impressed by, please try to remeber that these are items other cars have had for years. Heck, my 2002 POS Nissan Maxima has the auto seat exit where the seat goes all the way back to allow entry/exit. GM in general is always behind in interior refinement compared to other makes. I would expect with the delay between some other make introducing an item and GM finally offering it, the engineers could work the bugs out of it instead of putting more in it....
With the keyless system they needed a way to tell the car that you're shutting it down fully and lock the steering column. Meaning that if the car is shut down while on the highway (like in case of an emergency), they can't lock the steering column because you still need to maneuver. Since you won't have it in reverse when travelling on the highway (at least if your sane you won't , that's the way they determine that you want to fully shut off the car.
BTW, after the car is fully shut down you can put the gear lever into any gear you want. When washing my car I put the stick into neutral to avoid any kind of accident .
This is an interesting explanation, but there are many functions that are based upon the fact that the wheels are turning. Wouldn't that have been an easier method to know that the car should not have the steering wheel lock (while the wheels are turning)?
You missed my point. The other makes lock the column when the vehicle is shut off by the key. Shutting off the Corvette is when you push the button. Same action could then take place, lock the column, instead of making the driver put it in reverse. There are plenty of ways to by-pass the concerns of many that it would lock while in motion(although not fool proof) or they could simply return to the old system that locks it after it is turned so far while shut off. Either way, shifting to reverse is a very poor engineering design.
GM will learn after the Unions go into attack mode, upper management is removed and they look to the Government for cheap loans to bail them out....
I believe that all the other cars with keyless entry only come with automatic transmissions - and those have to be put in "park". I could be wrong, but I think this is the issue with the Corvette - it is the only one with a manual transmission.
The e-brake shutdown sounds great...unless you actually have to use it to stop the car(i.e. when the brake lines are run too close to the left side exhaust manifold and the pedal goes to the floor when the system bleeds out). That just might ruin someones day!
Hasn't GM already taken care of this? My '04 Suburban powers down after a set period of time, or you can set it to power down when you open the door. I get the thing about the column lock but why couldn't that be linked to an open door or power down or key fob out of range. This seems like a typical GM oversight. Hopefully by '06 they will get the word and re-program the computer.
