The Active Handling light on my C6 came on when I was turning around into a driveway apron. It was raining slightly at the time. The speed was less than 5mph during the turning maneuver. As the light went on the right rear brake engaged after which the vehicle would not go over 10mph withought the light coming back on and the same brake engaging and dragging. I limped my way to the Chevy dealer that was a block away as luck had it.
The dealer couldn’t find a fix but it went away after they looked at the codes. Chevrolet representative thought it might be caused by bad steering wheel/yaw sensor telling the vehicle was in a high speed skidding motion. Nothing could be proven by the dealer and it remains as a 'ghost' and hasn't happened since. Even more concerning if it happened again at speed.
You can expect the usual crew of C6 apologists chiming in to question your driving, your driveway, or your grip on reality. Anything except the truth...that this car obviously has a problem in this area.
By the way, you are person #7 on the forum reporting wierd AH behavior, and you are among the lucky ones. One other member wrecked his car.
I theorized in a prior post on this issue that these problems are likely the result of defective yaw or steering angle sensors. Seems your dealer and I agree.
You should insist that the dealer replace both. Play the safety angle.
I have had the "service active handling" message quite a few times but when I turn the ignition off it goes away. I took it to the dealer I bought it from but they couldn't find any problem. But the first two tech's that walked up to the C6 didn't know how to open the door!! I have had it happen again since then several times. Guess I need to find another servicing dealer.
I had to have the steering sensor replaced, the service active handling came on 1-2 times per week, usually while turning at slow speed. It would reset on a restart. Finally took it in when I had the alignment checked. The dealer was able to pull a code. They ordered the part and replaced it the next day(said it was a 3 hour job), has been fine since. Interestingly I had Onstar run a diagnostic on the system when it happened and they found no codes(although they said they run a limited scan). Good luck I would also have them replace the sensor.
I had the same issue and the dealer changed a sensor and it corrected this problem. My active handling light would come on at various times while driving.
