My C6 polished wheels were vandalized (keyed-very deep scratches) so obviously they need to be replaced. I'm looking for advice as to what I should consider for replacements. Original look wheels are available aftermarket at very competitve prices. On the other hand the original equipment from GM is also available but at ridiculous prices over the parts counter. Frankly I haven't been that impressed with them anyway-cloudy look because of clearcoat etc.
I note the aftermarket does have a chromed version of a C6 wheel which also might look good and of course there are a myriad of other wheels out there as well. Vette is black and might look good with some of the black accented forged versions available.
Advice please!
Consider Iforged Wheels, custom built to order. www.iforged.com go to the showcase to see some C6's. I am "impatiently" waiting for mine and car just showed up yesterday.

Should be covered by your insurance. Since the OEM are available @ a ridiculous price, I'd settle with the insurance co. for Oem replacement and buy what I like.
As a retired police officer I thought it was a scam before I finished reading that. If I were the insurance compny I would only replace the existing rims with the exact same ones and not issue a check for their value to discourage dishonest people from selecting this route as a path to CCW's. Everyone loses when scams are successful.
Sorry your car was vandalized but you are only entitled to the same rims.

Rims can be fixed, probably cost 100-150 a rim depending on where you go. I have seen rims with bad curb rash come out looking like new. BTW who keys rims? sure you didnt hit a curb?
Considering his deductible is at a minimum $500 and more likely $1000, he still has to lay out significant cash.... and then there's the potential premium rate hike as well..
Probably no rate hike and the replacement cost of those wheels are much higher than 1000. I believe that the retail is over 500 per wheel. I find it hard to believe that some scuum bag would bend down and key wheels ....all 4.... and not just key the car. A lot of work output for the money cost done to the owner. I ask myself what the motivation would be for such an act. Vandals only cause damage for jealousy and the intent is destruction/financial pain to the owner. It would have been far more efficient to key the body panels.
I think the polished wheels are ugly compared to the chromed wheels (aftermarket) and judging by the post, this owner seemed to agree. He seemed to be very fast to settle on aftermarket and not so concerned about restoring his car to 'new'.
Crooks and vandals are lazy SOBs. I can't see one making the effor to bend over and key up all four wheels. Gil Grissom needs to break out the CSI trace kit and swab some keys for clear coat residue. There are probably finger prints on the fenders right above the wheel. Things you learn on CSI.
Gosh thanks for all the comments from you insurance wizards. For the record there is no insurance claim involved here as my deductible is quite high. I was only looking for hopefully some experienced advice so as to maximize the results of my personal expenditure. Yes read "my expenditure".
Oh and by the way I do know the difference between a curb scrape on the outside of a wheel and these gouges which are on the inside of the wheel surface on three of the four; including those on the non curb side. I have no idea either what motivates such acts. Thanks to those few of you offering sincere advice.
To those of you with the incredible insight concluding an insurance scam from my question: I won't waste my time on this site any longer.
While indeed some of it sounded like a scam for insurance money, he didn't mention insurance doing the paying at any point, so I was inclined to believe him, even though the wheel-keying act itself doesn't make sense.

Hey guy , take it easy..... You have to understand this is the internet and the anonymous people behind their keyboards think they know everything, and there is no consequences for their words like there would be if they said it to your face...Just keep that in mind and everyone who posted the negative comments should keep that in mind too. That being said, I really like the look of the OZ racing superturismo GT. Thye look exactly like the wheels used on the C6R race cars. I've yet to find the right sizes though. Let us know what you decide and post pics when your done.. Not everyone here is an *******.
