Default MP3 Capability

My owners manual states that the CD player in the 05 vette can play MP3's. However, whenever i burn mp3's to a cd, and attempt to play it i get an "no valid disc" message. The same cd that wont play in my vette, will play in my wifes 05 Infiniti G35 sports coupe. Both vehicles have The Bose radio systems and Nav. I can play cds that i burn normally without problem. Its only when i try to play burnt mp3's that gives me this problem. What gives? i want to use mp3s so that i can have more music on one cd.

I found out that if there are over 50 folders, or 50 playlists, or 10 sessions, or 255 files you will have trouble. Also, when burning the CD, close out the session. See text below.

From the OM:
Using an MP3 CD
MP3 Format
This MP3 player will accept MP3 files that were recorded
on an up to 700 MB CD-R CD. The files can be
recorded with the following fixed bit rates: 32 kpbs,
40 kpbs, 56 kpbs, 64 kpbs, 80 kpbs, 96 kpbs,
112 kpbs, 128 kpbs, 160 kpbs, 192 kpbs, 224 kpbs,
256 kpbs, and 320 kpbs or a variable bit rate. Song title,
artist name, and album will be available when recorded
using ID3 tags versions 1 and 2.
The player will be able to read and play a maximum of
50 folders, 50 playlists, 10 sessions, and 255 files.
Long file, folder, or playlist names or a combination of a
large number of files and folders or playlists may
cause the player to be unable to play up to the
maximum number of files, folders, playlists, or sessions.
If you wish to play large numbers of files, folders,
playlists or sessions minimize the length of the file,
folder or playlist name. You can also play an MP3 CD
that was recorded using no file folders. The system can
support up to 11 folders in depth, though, keep the
depth of the folders to a minimum in order to keep down
the complexity and confusion in trying to locate a
particular folder during playback. If a CD contains
more than the maximum of 50 folders, 50 playlists,
10 sessions, and 255 files the player will let you access
and navigate up to the maximum, but all items over
the maximum will be ignored.
Root Directory
The root directory will be treated as a folder. If the root
directory has compressed audio files, the directory
will be displayed as F1 ROOT. All files contained directly
under the root directory will be accessed prior to any
root directory folders. However, playlists (Px) will always
be accessed before root folders or files.
Empty Directory or Folder
If a root directory or a folder exists somewhere in the
file structure that contains only folders/subfolders and no
compressed files directly beneath them, the player will
advance to the next folder in the file structure that
contains compressed audio files and the empty folder
will not be displayed or numbered No Folder
When the CD contains only compressed files, the files
will be located under the root folder. The next and
previous folder functions will have no function on a
CD that was recorded without folders or playlists.
When displaying the name of the folder the radio will
display ROOT.
When the CD contains only playlists and compressed
audio files, but no folders, all files will be located under
the root folder. The folder down and the folder up
buttons will search playlists (Px) first and then go to the
root folder. When the radio displays the name of the
folder the radio will display ROOT.
Order of Play
Tracks will be played in the following order:
• Play will begin from the first track in the first playlist
and will continue sequentially through all tracks in
each playlist. When the last track of the last playlist
has been played, play will continue from the first
track of the first playlist.
• If the CD does not contain any playlists, then play
will begin from the first track under the root directory.
When all tracks from the root directory have been
played, play will continue from files according to their
numerical listing. After playing the last track from the
last folder, play will begin again at the first track of
the first folder or root directory.
When play enters a new folder, the display will not
automatically show the new folder name unless
you have chosen the folder mode as the default display.
See the information button later in this section for
more information. The new track name will appear on
the display.
File System and Naming
The song name that will be displayed will be the song
name that is contained in the ID3 tag. If the song name
is not present in the ID3 tag, then the radio will
display the file name without the extension
(such as .mp3) as the track name.
Track names longer than 32 characters or 4 pages will
be shortened. The display will not show parts of
words on the last page of text and the extension of the
filename will not be displayed.
Preprogrammed Playlists
You can access preprogrammed playlists which were
created by WinAmp™, MusicMatch™, or Real
Jukebox™ software, however, you will not have editing
capability. These playlists will be treated as special
folders containing compressed audio song files.

With all due respect to the previous two posts, I will answer the question. When you get navigation, you lose the ability to play MP3's.

Though they say there will be a software upgrade to add that MP3 function soon for 05 Navs as 06 Nav cars can play MP3s....

I got a question on this topic that I couldn't find an awnser for in calemasters post. Are the subfolders that are located in the same directory as each other supposed to be played by alphabetibal order of the folder name? I remember reading this somewhere in the manual, but mine doesn't.

I have folders by artist name, and subfolders that start off with a number in the order I'd like them to be played, followed by that album name. But they don't play in that order. And even more confusing, when I play those discs in my girlfriend's car, they play in a different order. When I made some of these disks I finalized the session, but not the disk. Would that matter?

They play in alphabetical order by Album Name and then by title name within the Album.

I think if you look at the disc contents and folders on your computer, they will play in the order that they've been burned. Usually alphabetical, unless you tell it otherwise. I remember in Nero you can assign a track number to a particular tune. Finalizing the disc will not change the order, but some non-finalized discs will not play in some CD players. I don't know if there's a problem playing them in our C6's, since I always finalize them.

That may be the/your default case.
But many of my songs are custom named/edited and go alphabetically using the ID3 tag, starting with song titles.

Default Make sure it is a MP3 file.

Windows media player will often burn discs into .wma file not mp3. If your cd has any wma files it will eject the cd error read disc.

FYI

I think that's my problem. Some of the ID3 tags don't match the filename. Thanks guys
