Took the spring out and I like it better with it in,seems smoother and has more of a sports car (m3, s2000) feel.Took 5 minutes to remove but "BEWARE" its a mother to put back in .I ended up making a tool hooked on one end out of 12" long 3/16" steel rod to pull each end back into the hole. That sucker is under some pretty good tension and its really tight under there.

1/2 my spring actually broke off some time ago and the dealer left it out when they got in the replacement spring but found it was the wrong size. Drove for about 2 weeks without the spring and yes the pedal was stiffer, but it did feel better once the legs adjusted to the heavier pedal. One thing I did notice while the spring was out was that the clutch would chatter loudly when shifting from 1st to 2nd while not warmed up. Not sure if it was cause by the missing spring, but another observation was that the pedal had a small play side to side, where as with the spring it does not move as such.

When the replacement spring was put back in, it definitely felt too soft. So much so that I had a hard time driving due to the clutch pressing in so easily and not coming out fast enough.

Not sure if the spring stiffened up or my legs returned to weak form, because these days the pedal feels pretty heavy even with the spring working...

If you clutch doesn't chatter and you don't mind a slight play in the clutch pedal, then just do it. It'll exercise your left leg to match the work your right does on that gas pedal.

I just removed the spring and clutch feel has improved drastically. It might take a little time getting used to the stiffer clutch pedal but clutc release is so smoother. The clutch pedal stoke also seems shorter? It might just be my imagination though. Thanks for the tip connor.

What part dont you believe ?

I am not sayin that your 1/4 mile times will improve just that the shifts feel better but moreso with more agressive driving

Or if you dont believe i got it out in 20 seconds i will come show your dumb a#@ how its done, but since you built your first rod at 19 you should be more skilled than I am at quick spring removal!

I could probably help you get it back in after you take it out if you dont like the way it feels.

Glad i was able to help
Robert

Leaving the spring in is for 90 year old drivers with a weak leg. There is no other reason to have it there. Most people dont even notice a pressure difference anyway unless you sit in commute traffic for 2 hours a day, and if thats the case then you really need to seek help from a professional.

20 seconds to take it out? What took you so long? LOL

When I first drove my car, the pedal felt way too soft. I had just migrated from the clutch on my 67 to the new one. I removed the spring last night and the clutch pedal is close to what I was used to.

I like it. Firmer, more positive engage/disengage. I am slightly less than 90 years of age.

I've always felt this forum is great because people get to share their ideas and opinions.I do agree that it takes almost no time to pop the spring out with a screwdriver.I also understand how some folks would like it better without the spring since it has a more linear feel.I also believe some may not and that you don't have to be impaired, weak or only like to shift at "low RPM's" to prefer the lighter clutch feel which you get with the spring in place.I enjoy quick shifting and take the car to red line a lot,but maybe I've just got used to the lighter feel or driving the car this way but I prefer it the way it came with the spring assist. Although it takes no time to pop the spring out I just want to let people know that its very difficult to reinstall, maybe I just didn't know the proper procedure but I had a hard time getting it back in.
There is no reason for insults or name calling to get your point across,we're all passionate about our love of cars.Didn't mean to insult you with the "eyeroll" face I just didn't agree with your statement that "those who shift at 2000 rpms" would leave the spring in,maybe it would have been better if I had explainded that instead .

I removed my clutch spring last night. Today was fluid day so I topped of my brake master cylinder and my clutch master cylinder. I'll have to bleed the clutch fluid soon as it is starting to get dark.

Anyway, I drove the car some more after topping off the fluids. The clutch feels so much better without that darn spring. And, the "springless" C6 clutch is much lighter than the clutch in the "animal" below.

If you have not tried your car without that silly spring, do it. Give it a few days and make sure your clutch fluid (DOT-4 brake fluid) is topped off. You're going to like the feel. The point where the clutch engages is much, much more predictable as others in this thread have said.

I took mine out and drove it this morning. I had to change how I position my foot on the pedal. With the spring in I had the pedal a little towards the top part of my foot. Without the spring I moved my seat forward a little and have the pedal touch my foot a little lower, more close to the middle of my foot. That is the only way I can drive it. I do seem to shift a little smoother.

How do you all typically rest your foot on the clutch pedal on the C6 as well as other cars through the years of driving? I can't remember how I did it in other cars I've driven.

Sounds like you're doing fine as long as "resting" your foot doesn't mean riding the clutch pedal. There's a nice dead pedal to the left of the clutch for that purpose.

The more you drive the car springless. the more you will like it.

What's the easiest way to bleed the clutch cylinder?

Good question, as I have not done it yet. I'll have to defer to someone who has done it.

I like it; clutch seems to engage more acurately; slightly more pedal pressue, but worth it to me.
