Clutch spring removed...what a difference
.I ended up making a tool hooked on one end out of 12" long 3/16" steel rod to pull each end back into the hole. That sucker is under some pretty good tension and its really tight under there.

i think that those of you that shift at 2000rpms will find yourself leaving it alone but the ones whos foot is always in the throttle will like it removed for faster shifts just my opinion
When the replacement spring was put back in, it definitely felt too soft. So much so that I had a hard time driving due to the clutch pressing in so easily and not coming out fast enough.
Not sure if the spring stiffened up or my legs returned to weak form, because these days the pedal feels pretty heavy even with the spring working...
If you clutch doesn't chatter and you don't mind a slight play in the clutch pedal, then just do it. It'll exercise your left leg to match the work your right does on that gas pedal.

Yeah right.
Yeah right.
What part dont you believe ?
I am not sayin that your 1/4 mile times will improve just that the shifts feel better but moreso with more agressive driving
Or if you dont believe i got it out in 20 seconds i will come show your dumb a#@ how its done, but since you built your first rod at 19 you should be more skilled than I am at quick spring removal!
I could probably help you get it back in after you take it out if you dont like the way it feels.
Glad i was able to help
Robert

I like it. Firmer, more positive engage/disengage. I am slightly less than 90 years of age.

I've always felt this forum is great because people get to share their ideas and opinions.I do agree that it takes almost no time to pop the spring out with a screwdriver.I also understand how some folks would like it better without the spring since it has a more linear feel.I also believe some may not and that you don't have to be impaired, weak or only like to shift at "low RPM's" to prefer the lighter clutch feel which you get with the spring in place.I enjoy quick shifting and take the car to red line a lot,but maybe I've just got used to the lighter feel or driving the car this way but I prefer it the way it came with the spring assist. Although it takes no time to pop the spring out I just want to let people know that its very difficult to reinstall, maybe I just didn't know the proper procedure but I had a hard time getting it back in.
There is no reason for insults or name calling to get your point across,we're all passionate about our love of cars.Didn't mean to insult you with the "eyeroll" face I just didn't agree with your statement that "those who shift at 2000 rpms" would leave the spring in,maybe it would have been better if I had explainded that instead .

Anyway, I drove the car some more after topping off the fluids. The clutch feels so much better without that darn spring. And, the "springless" C6 clutch is much lighter than the clutch in the "animal" below.
If you have not tried your car without that silly spring, do it. Give it a few days and make sure your clutch fluid (DOT-4 brake fluid) is topped off. You're going to like the feel. The point where the clutch engages is much, much more predictable as others in this thread have said.
How do you all typically rest your foot on the clutch pedal on the C6 as well as other cars through the years of driving? I can't remember how I did it in other cars I've driven.

The more you drive the car springless. the more you will like it.
