Got the "check oil level" on the DIC today. checked it and it was LOW.
I changed the oil around 6k miles ago. I guess I need to check it at every 1-2k mile since these cars are known to burn oil, espeically when driven hard
6 K???? you must really believe the commercials about how good they think that Mobil 1 is. I put Amsoil in at 9,000 miles and it will get changed at 12,000
My first experience with Mobil 1 was with a Formula Vee racer. The engine was rebuilt and filled with Mobil 1. Car didn't run worth a crap. After two races we tore it down and found that it hadn't even started to break in. We had to fill it with dino oil to get it to break in.
Since then, I've put 170K miles on a Fiat X-1/9 and 135K miles on a Toyota MR-2, both with Mobil 1 and annual oil changes (disregarding milage) after break-in. Neither engine was ever apart and both were running perfectly with no oil use when I sold the cars.
But I changed the oil on my 'vette at 3K miles, mainly to drain any break-in products. After this I'll probably follow the oil life indicator.
