Default Destroking the LS2

I have always been a fan of the DZ-302. In full race trim, they ran the motors up to 10-12k rpm (from what I heard).

Anyway, I was wondering what a modern LS2 could become if destroked. Not displacement wise, but power and power curve wise.

Also considering the availability of high tech springs, valves, etc, the higher rpms could be reached without exotic one off pieces in the heads (considering titanium retainers are pretty common now). Maybe a 5.3L LS crank, custom length rods, custom 11:1 pistons......

Just a thought.... like an indy engine in a street car. Also considering the C5 is not that heavy, with a medium diet, a high reving motor could be fun in one. Plus at the higher displacement, low end torque would not really be a problem.

Anyone else think of weird stuff like this?

Sorry for the repost.

0-80mph in first gear-- nice idea but it will be solid roller.

Wow, if you can destroke the LS2 and have it live and breath at 12000 rpm, you will have one heck of a road racing machine. What kind of horsepower would you expect? Maybe in the 650-750 range?

As described in "On Modifying Small Block Chevy Engines" By John Lingenfelter (may he rest in peace)

If this engine has any operation on the street, you are vastly better off by going with larger displacement rather than with higher RPMs. And the reason is TQ, TQ is what makes a SBC snap your neck as you mask the go pedal.

Second, NASCAR engines live at 9,000 RPMs for 500-ish miles, I don't know of any pushrod engines that live at 10,000+ RPMs.

Third, it is the valve train that limits the RPM potential, not the piston speed nor the bottom end.
