My 05 coupe with 2500 miles on it has a point at about 4000 RPM where it seems to vibrate more than at other RPM. I can feel it as I'm running it up through the gears (not necessarily flogging it, or WOT). It is smooth as can be at lower or higher RPMs. It's not terribly bad, but definitely noticible at maybe 3900-4100. My vin is over 36000 so I don't suspect any damper bolt problem. Anybody else experience this with theirs?
My C6 is still new, I haven't had it much over 4000 rpm yet. One thing I can tell you is that there's no engine vibration under 4k rpm.
But I will mention that I've had several other cars and a motorcycle that DID have an engine vibration exactly as you describe. From memory, one old Pontiac V8 had an engine vibration at around 3,500rpm, and an 1100cc V4 Honda motorcycle had an engine vibration around 4,500 rpm. Both engines were stock and had never been opened. Never had any problems with the engines otherwise. I never did find out the exact source of the vibrations.
Wonder if it's an internal balancing issue... or if it might just be some weird harmonic sympathetic vibration thing that is "normal". I guess we'll need an experienced engine builder to answer this one.
I'm kind of thinking that it's the nature of the beast. I have a 99 Ford 150 van with a V8 and it has a vibration point like the Vette. I've had the van for 3 years and it has 70K miles on it with no problems. Kind of bugs me though, but the car runs great.
