Guys I have an 06 Z51 MN 800 miles, and it just feels slow - won't even break the tires loose in first gear with throttle only ( of course all traction control turned off). Is this normal, I don't mind traction control but at times I prefer it to be controlled by my right foot. Can you guys break your tires loose in straight line with throttle only?
Nope, my 06 ZZ-51 A6 wont break the tires loose when I stomp on it with or without traction control on. But it did turn 109.1 at 13 sec flat weekend before last at Palmdale drags. My best speed and time was with TC and AH both off, and just punching it in D. When you put it in S and start off in 1st gear, it seems to haul A... better, but the darn torque management causes about a 1/2 sec. pause between gears. In D, there is no pause!
Something wrong. My C5 vert was fast and able to smoke the tires.
The C6 Vert Im now driving feels much more powerfull that the C5 did and can easly light up the tires.
Just bought 06 coupe with 6 speed manual it will not break tires loose after clutch has been released if You are rolling along 10 or 15 mph without depressing clutch and bringing rpm up I only have 1700 miles on it so far
my A4 vert tires will spin off the rims it I let it and in the cold weather... way to easy to ....get it checked out something is wrong
I live in NJ, so its pretty cold right now. I have brand new back tires and my Z-51 auto breaks loose so easy its downright scary. If, I'm not careful, on the 1- 2nd shift, the whole *** end feels like it would spin around. Car has 12k on the clock. This car is a fuggin beast in the cold weather. Only mods are Corsa catbacks. To be installed: Vara-ram - CAI, and a tune.
My A4 C6 (with T/C off) will break them loose off the line, but the impact is more dramatic from a roll, around 25-35 mph. When I stomp on it at that point, it will break loose and the first to second shift will often-times produce a nice chirp! Mine is now at 18,000 miles.
I don't ever notice a chirp. Its probably because the car may be a little sideways at the time and my brain is focused on other survival duties at the time. By the way, the ONLY place that I ever do this type of thing is on a barren country road down from my house. Never, never, never, ever, ever on regular streets. This back road is about 1/2 mile long with fields on either side. Perfect place to stretch out the car's legs every now and then. I know, Iknow.....IBTL.
synthetic oil from the factory in these cars makes the breakin much longer. My '05 C6 didn't break in before 8000 miles. Suddenly, it was like turning a switch... it got 2 more mph and felt much stronger. Manual trans and z51.
My new '06 C6 is an auto/z51 and feels slow also. However, it will spin the tires with the traction control off.

I have an '05 mn6 with just over 32k miles on it. I can chirp the tires all the way up too and going into fourth, haven't tried for fifth, yet....
chirping the tires using the clutch and using throttle only are two different things. unfortuntately, the 'auto' guys can't compare except to say, ha ha, I can chrip the tires and you can't... nah nee nah neee nah nah...
in order to spin the tires after the drive train is fully engaged is not an easy task and too many variables exist in order to say one way or the other. everything from weather, surface type, to time of day and engine temp. will play a role as too if you can spin the tires once the car is already in motion. being able to spin the tires after the clutch is released requires enough torque to exceed the 'grip' factor of the tires on the particuliar surface. so, yes, on some surfaces you will be able to spin the tires with ease and other times on other surfaces you will get traction and accel on down the roadway.
i wouldn't stress too much over it right now, give a few thousand miles.
