Default Hack

The torque managment module works but it is a hack and also very dangerous if used on the street. First of all you have to splice and cut your wiring harness that goes to your computer. Second....when switched on it shuts off the abs which also shutsdown the stabilitycontrol. I almost killed myself. Someone pulled in front of me and when I applied the brakes, they locked up on me. In my opinion this module is not worth the money. A custom tune will lower your fan settings, adjust timing, and also eliminate torque managment. I also would not recommend a mail order tune. I had my computer programmed thru mail order and when I installed it and ran it on the dyno the car was running really really lean. I could have blown my engine. Just my experienced opinion.

I have been considering a mail order tune. Would you PM me with your details?
Thanks

I agree, I would rather have it done through actual programming as well, but at the time that the 'for track use only' module was first developed there was NO tuning available for the C6/LS2. And even with the software that is now available there are still some limitations as far as TM tables and even fan settings are concerned, that's where the module still shows it's advantages (on the track). Just like is still going on with the C5 programming, new tables/parameters are still being discovered every day.

I know what the advantages are of getting a tune that eliminates Torque Management. What are the disadvantages/dangers???

Interesting in that the common thought concerning TM is that it's a timing pull, not a brake application. How would you decrease torque output by applying brakes? The motor would still be "putting out".

As illustrated a few messages up, this was a mod that could have serious safety consequences - the very thing that was alluded to months ago, when we debated this with carteks' "white knight" (who, at the time didn't even own a C6, much less one with this mod) until we were all blue in the face.

Frankly, given the current expertise in tuning, I'm amazed they even offer this mod anymore.

Yeah somehow I knew you'd feel the burning desire to stick that in there somewhere, it just burns you up for some reason and you simply cannot bring yourself to let it go huh?
Perhaps you need another warning from the mods like last time?

TM, is it “Torque Management” or should it be “Think for a Moment”. Let’s see if I got this, GM invests time and a ton of money to improve on the LS1 called the LS2 then another group within the company now figures out a way to UNDO all of that by making the computer neuter the motor to protect the drive train…….Then they come out with an even bigger motor called the LS7……..Why didn't we just stay with the LS1

Simple, 400hp (or better yet 505hp) sells (and breaks) a lot more cars than 350hp does.
Hmm, now how could one possibly market/sell more vehicles without increasing warranty claims?
Based on a similar logic, we now earn say 6 times more income than we did in the '70s yet homes cost 7 times as much as they did then, why didn't we just keep salaries and housing prices the same?
It's all give and take, not an alien concept ya know.
Or are you actually STILL trying to claim that TM does not even exist, even in automatics?

It doesn't, helps to know the firmware team from GM

Yet plenty of reputable tuners say it does. My uncle's friends cousin knows people in GM as well and they said it was so :o

This is HUGE news...I would love for you to make a new thread on the topic maybe asking both car owners that mod their cars and tuners alike (many who've gone quicker/faster after programming out what they at least thought was TM) what they think about that. Maybe take a poll or something.
For the record, that same GM firmware team at one point also told us that you CANNOT change any of the parameters of the PCM once it leaves the factory as well but umm, I think WE now know otherwise.

I am fairly new to this board and not looking to get into the middle of a pissing match. I am not an engineer or a computer expert, but I can tell you what I DO know. First off TM is not new, it has been around for a good number of years. It is much more evident in cars with higher horspower. I also have several friends with GM, some as high as platforn director level, and have had several conversations with them about TM. Now as far as C6's, my '06, Z51, A6 is being used by a very well know and respected A/M company for some developemental and prototype work. The '06 ECM IS different than the '05. There is a very interesting screen that comes up for TM that lists each gear and the percent of TM that is programed for each change. On my car we set all except 6th to 0%. I find it hard to believe this table would be there if TM did not exsist. Also the fact that my car feels like a differant car, sorta like the difference between granny shifting and power shifting a mid 60's big block Chevelle. Another little fact, the A6 is back to using a seperate TCM and there is a delay built in for shift points. They are not able at this point to get into the TCM. Give the computer nerds a month or two and they will. As it was stated before, we were at one time told the ECMs could not be modified. Sorry this turned out to be so long.

It was bad enough two years ago when some Tuner comes up with this idea and then comes up with a TM module 6 months before anyone could read any of the code. Then we find out that they just shut off the ABS system. According to the firmware developers timing is pulled because it’s the fastest dynamic control so as not to punch a hole in a piston when a wound up engine is unloaded. Your torque management are algorithms for Active Handling.

Then please explain to me how my '00 Camaro SS and my wife's '98 Buick Regal GS both have TM and neither have any semblance of Active Handling. TM has no impact on the majority of drivers, most have no idea it's there or what it is. Serves the same purpose as the blead off oriface in some hydr. clutch systems, to lessen the shock to the driveline during extreme acceleration.
