Default Short Shifter Experience PLEASE READ

Hello members most of you know me as Fred. I drove home to North Carolina from Boston this past friday. I stopped in Bristow VA to meet with Steve and let him help me install my B&M short shifter. Upon arriving Steve welcomed me with open arms. He hospitality was definitely evident in everything he did. He install the shifter and was kind enough to let me wash my car and see some of his futurue projects. (Pipedreams my soon have competition) Steve and his wife are two of the nicest people I have meet thus far in my life. They also have two beautiful vettes. He introduced me to allot of new products and ideas. Again anyone in VA I would strongly urge you to contact him if making any interior modification.

Now the Short Shifter:
One word sums it up. Wonderful. 300x better than stock. No more vibration and now I am total confident that the car is in the proper gear. Shifts are short and firm. Best Mod I have done so far.

I also just install my vararam intake and it was a piece of cake. Thanks again Steve for everything.

It is usually the little things that make the car so much more enjoyable. I cut down the stocker for shorter throws and used a different grease; it is a world of a difference....and free.

Where did you cut, and how much?

And which superior grease did you use?

Thanx in advance for valuable data .

cutting the shaft just makes it shorter. does not change the ratio or the feel just makes the shifter shorter. it is not the same as a aftermarketr shifter.

Not true. 3 ways to make the throw shorter: shorten the top of the shaft before the fulcrum, lengthen the bottom after the fulcrum, and raise the height of the fulcrum along with both of the above. Mine is now half the original height. Cut off 1 1/4 inches and used a low sitting t-handle. It is less than half the throw of stock (actual distance traveled by the top of the shifter) and 30% less distance than any aftermarket shifter currently available. The heavy (superior? how do I take that-am I going to regret volunteering this? haha) grease gives it a damped feel. No rattles.

I think you need to rethink the geometry. I will post a picture for you to see with a ruler how obvious the difference is if needed with the permission of the thread originator.

I'm interested in a shifter as well. Where did you buy it? Saw another post that said they were on backorder?

Fred, it was great to meet you. I'm glad we were able to get your shifter installed and not break anything. Anytime you're passing by stop in and say hello.

Jag, yes we are planning on doing the Skyline drive. We are also going to do the St Patricks Day parade in DC. Should be fun.

alright guys cutting down the shifter at most give a 10% reduction also makes it harder to shift cause of less leverage. switching to a b&m or hurst or calloway or breathless performance shifter is a much better way to reduce throw because they change the pivot point in the base which reduces throw without changing leverage. also with the hurst and breathless you have the option of 3 or 4 diferent spring rates and atleast with the breathless 6 different position options. I have tested all 3 of these short throws and one more that wont actually be in production for about a month and between these 4 the breathless performance and the proto type are the quitest best throwing and most accomidating shifters out of the 4 if you want to know more about the proto type MTI racing will be selling these soon and they are great no vibration smooth shifting option to use both stock **** or aftermarket and still a 40% reduction
