The rule in both the NHRA and IHRA is convertibles running 11.00 to 13.49, in the quarter,7.00 to 8.25 in the eighth need a roll bar. You can violate this twice. The first time they will warn you and the second time they will kick you out.

There is no exception in the 2006 rulebooks for "stock" anything.
With respect to helmets, motorcycle helmets are fine except in some classes which require a fireproof lining. What the helmets do require is some level of Snell rating. The date of the rating again depends on the class with the lowest year currently 95.
