Default Fluid question..... Tranny/Diff

Ok, its coming up time to do my first oil change on my car. At the same time, I was thinking about changing the differential fluid and transmission fluid after seeing other posts on here about Royal Purple maybe making the tranny shift a little better.

Anyone with an opinion on this?

oh. Its a Z51 6-speed.

Does it call for ATF in the stick? If so,then use just about any ATF there is as they all meet the "H" designation. For the diff,I'd say Shell Spirax LS 80W-90. For the most horsepower, use Quakerstate "Q" synthetic oil in your engine. (I can't believe I'm saying this...)

Yes, the stick calls for ATF. RP's syncromax is intended for manuals that use ATF.

I gave the RP treatment to mine. The shifitng is a bit smoother and I like it. It's not a night and day difference, but definately noticeable. The only noticeable difference in doing the diff too, is that some say it makes it quieter. I believe it since changing the diff oil is what the dealer will try first if yours makes noise. Mine never made any noise, so I can't tell the difference. But I feel a lot better driving the car hard knowing that the original oil is no longer in there. It was quite dirty when I drained it.

For my tranny I put the RoyalPurple syncromax, which made a big difference with my b&m shifter. I installed the shifter prior to the tranny fluid change, I definitely needed the syncromax.

A while ago I swapped the diff. fluid with RP maxgear, big difference for me there too. Immediately the tranny was quite during cold turns, and the car no longer does cold 'lurches'. Still loving it hundreds of miles later.

I also changed the trans and rear fluids with RP.

I used Redline in the tranny. Worked well and got it next day from one of the big mail-order parts places I can't mention on this site.
