Default Help!!! "engine Drag Control?" And Engine Light

I was driving down my residential street at about 10-11 mph in my '06 Z51 6 sp. vert in 2nd gear just about ready to pull into my driveway. I tapped the brakes and brought it down to 5-6 mph and decided to downshift into 1st to climb the slight uphill incline that makes up my driveway. Well, much to my surprise the RPM's totally jacked upwards and the car dragged so hard it pinned me back in my seat for a moment. HAS THIS EVER HAPPENED TO ANYONE ELSE?The digital display read exactly this "ENGINE DRAG CONTROL" and then the engine light displayed itself. I am a fairly good driver do I do not think this was anything that I did, as my behavior to pull into my driveway is the same everytime and basically normal procedure. PLEASE ADVISE!!!!!

Seriously?? Ive never heard of that warning light.
the description sounds like a bad downshift (too many rpms)
but im sure thats not the case as you were going < 10 mph...

good luck

Thanks for the info...............The message flashed up and was gone pretty quickly but I am about 99% certain that's what it said......I don't mind taking it in to the dealership (well a local, anyway, since the car came out of Kerbeck to get to me 3 states away!)....but the engine light has gone off and I'm wondering if it was just the cause of a bad downshift even though I was going so slow.

if the check engine light is gone and you have no driveability issue, i wouldn't worry about it then....you might be wasting your time at the dealership. of course if you want 100% sure make the appointment with your local dealership. good luck.

I haven't noticed anything on the DIC, but I've been rolling along in 1st (MN6) at about 5mph to go over the speed bumps at work... once the front wheels are over (note: my foot is on the brake during this!) the car tries to accelerate briefly. I'll peek at the DIC tonight when I go through this process leaving.

Frickin' speedbumps. :-(

Yepper, I have had it happen and it does say "Engine drag control" on the DIC. Your car decided that the back wheels were in a situation to where they could slip from engine drag so it increased engine torque for you to keep the wheels from locking up thus improving the vehicle stability. I think this also cuts your chances down with "lift throttle oversteer."

The engine drag control gets back on the gas for you if the car gets loose during engine braking. This is intended to prevent lift-throttle oversteer, which I suspect is a far more common cause of (unintentional) spinouts than excessive throttle.

However, one would think that the feature would be disabled at speeds below, say, 30mph, or if the car was travelling straight. I'd take it in.

Take it to a dealer and explain to them what you said here. It's important to find out if something is wrong that could cause and accident.

Miss Vette, some of these computer intrusions do not throw a code that they can check with their little hand held diagnostic toys. My car has had the Service Active Handling Problem going on a month now and they wont fix the problem because they can't find a code. Several of us know what the problem is and showed them the service buletin but the dealerships I took mine too won't listen to me. No code=no problem=no fixing anything. My dads 05 had the same problem as mine and his mechanic found a bad sensor in the steering collum. Replace it and no more problem. Like you my AH and TC kicked in on the highway under normal straitline driving and made the car undriveable. If I had a truck behind me I would have been toast!!!!!! These computer systems should fail and not come on..Instead they fail and intrude on your everyday driving causing a safety issue IMHO. I'd try to et a dealer to look into this if I were you. Damn computers!

If the problem has corrected itself and the "CEL" goes off, the code probably self-cleared. Nice friend ya got there. (and lucky too)

A girl in a high tech C6 needs at least one great friend with an awesome tool, right? "CEL" is off, so I guess I'm good for now, but still apprehensive from the whole experience.

WOW, did not see this until today and FINALLY someone else with the issue... I started having this happen right after my dealer installed my powder coated calipers (stock Z51, just powder coated)... It happed 3 times in about 15 minutes, then the next day 3 times... Now it is sporadic, sometimes going weeks w/o the problem... 6 speed as well (05)... I have had the car checked twice now and still can not find anything (no codes)... I thought it was a drive by wire problem
or another "1st" year issue, glad it happened (if you know what I mean) on an 06 so its not 1st year related. I have had it happen in 3rd and 4ft (around 40-50mph) and it jerks your head back always with the "engine drag control".

If you or anyone else comes up with something, please let me know and vice versa...

Thanks,
Thomas

Can this be disabled with the TC/AH totally off?
