Which track?
Don't worry about the lights your first time, the clock wont start until you go! When you feel comfortable then begin practicing the tree.
Leave on the third (last) yellow. By the time your car reacts, the green light will be lit.
reaction time doesn't affect ET though, the actual timer doesn't start until you decide to move. You will get a Reaction Time, as well as an Elapsed Time, and they are independent of eachother.
These guys have all said it pretty well. The other warning I always told my friends their first couple of times down the track, just take it easy, launch easy and if for any reason the car starts to get out of control back out of it. A lot of people have a tendancy to stay in the throttle to try to save the run, but its not worth it. You can always run again!!!
Thanks for the advice the track is Lebannn racetrack in NY,I will leave on the traction control it might not look pretty not to spin the tires, but it will help on the ET.I am still wondering if I should use the paddle shifter or just put it in sport mode.

TC on will not help your ET, it will probably slow you some. If you are stock HP you probably will do very little spinning anyway. I suggest you run in Comp mode. Don't start in sport mode, you will be in second gear unless you manually downshift. Using your paddles is fine but you will run just as fast in Drive letting it shift on its own.

This is incorrect, if you are not using the paddle mode (Manual) and are just in "Sport" the transmission starts in FIRST. Once paddles are activated then you are required to shift down to 1st.
I would run in Comp mode (That is correct) with the transmission in "S", don't try to take it to stall with the break on or you will have the tires spinning off the line (At least mine does with stock run flats). Take off at idle and go to WOT quickly but not instantly (you need to practice that part a few times) once a WOT just leave it there and the "S" mode will do the rest. Don't forget Competition mode that allows quicker shifts. If TC is on shifts are delayed a fraction more. (Even stated in the Owners Manual). Good lick.
Unless you're running slicks....some tracks prefer you go around the water box so you don't leave any water on the track for the next guy. Maybe check with the track officials beforehand.
At ATCO unfortunately we don't have that option (to go around the water)...
I wear stock tires and don't like getting the fronts or rears really wet. So... Here's a small trick at the Atco waterbox...
Actually the Atco water box is deeply grooved and I put the right wheel on the crown (between the grooves) and that puts the left wheels close to the left hand edge of the archway. This way I keep the front wheels pretty dry. Then I stop and start the burnout in the damp area, just forward of the water box.
